Give the agitator a twist with your hand and see if it starts to wash. If not, it could be a worn belt, broken couplin, stuck motor, or other mechanical problem.

What you are describing is the sound of the motor trying to turn. this is hardly a reason to replace a washer, especially is it is a newer model. i suggest you calla tech and have the washer tested.

My guess is the drive belt is off. Only a guess. Or, probably more likely, the clutch is shot. Clutch repair is expensive. Better just buy a new washer.

Machine filled with water. .but doesn't start to wash. .makes humming noise

Either the motor is bad or the fill sensor is bad? Try switching it to the spin cycle if it doesn't spin more and likely the motor is bad ?

the buzzing noise is the pump trying to work, but it cannot due to a blockage. unplug the washer and you can lean the washer backwards and remove the pump to unblock. the fill error is probably unrelated, and is an inlet valve issue.

Howling noise on start-up

Hi just read your posting.Does the machine make the noise when it is filling? If so then try a cold fill and see if the noise happens and if there is no noise then try a hot fill to see if there is a noise. Please reply with additional information on whether the noise happens on the filling cycle or at another part of the cycle.

GE washing machine does not run, gives humming noise

A washing machine is a simple product.

When trouble shooting anything you have to know what is supposed to do and what is it not doing.

At the begining of a washing machine cycle the machine fills with water until a switch is made telling the machine it is full and ready to agitate. Since it never fills it will stick in that part of the cycle.

When you start a cycle and no water enters the drum you have one of three problems:

1. The water supply is shut off.
2. The solenoid valve that supplies the water is not opening.
3. No power to the washing machine.

Since you are hearing a hum, the machine seems to be trying to activate that valve,
The humming noise comes from the electromagnetic field that activates the valve,

Washing machine makes buzzing noise

Check the water pump for an obstruction in the chamber area, your pump may be sticking and that will cause the buzzing sound. The water pump runs during the fill portion of the cycle on several of the selected wash cycles to recirculate the water.
