By " it works if i switch to A/M." you mean switch on the lense. This shows that the autofocus system of the lense is broken. Either change the lense or get the lense repaired.

My Nikon Coolpix camera has been working fine for many years but today the auto focus and shutter release buttons will not function. The viewfinder is working as is the metering which you can see changing...

Just charge and use the battery a few times and see if it will work better after 2 or 3 times. If to, buy a new one. Then to make sure nothing is wrong with the camera, switch to the auto mode like you can read on page 15 of the manual. the camera should make pictures when there is some light and you press the shutter release button.
The manual is still online with Nikon USA.

Hi, I've just recieved my nikon d90 back from a repair and service, and although everything appears to be working fine, whenever I want to change shooting modes,( auto, P, M, flash off etc), they only work...

I'm going to assume at this point that the camera has been serviced correctly. What I'd suggest is that you look in your manual and find where you can reset your camera back to the factory default settings. Okay here are a few thoughts that might be what is happening again I'm assuming the service was done correctly. In "Auto" mode the camera is in full control and what might be happening is the camera has selected a shutter speed many seconds long to achieve a correct exposure, most DSLR's will have a 30 second shutter speed. Also the mirror up function my be activated so first the mirror comes up then the shutter delay happens. The mirror lock up function on my fleet of digital cameras locks up every time I trip the shutter until I set the function to off. It'll really throw you off if the mirror lock up is activated, the camera is set for a time delay be this 5 or 10 seconds and then you have a long exposure on top of that, feels like forever before the picture is actually taken. By going into your setting or custom functions and setting the the camera back to factory default so bring you back to the setting the camera had when you first got it.

Olympus C-8080, everything works except the shutter release. I press the shutter button, auto focus is done but "no shutter release". Any ideas? Derek

Does the shutter button feel like it's contacting twice as you press it in? if not, the spring disk in the switch is split; It has happened to me on other cameras on several occasions. Solution is to replace the switch.

If it works otherwise I would suspect the ribbon cable. They can get loose, or the contacts can get oxidized. I don't know specifically about the c-8080, on some cameras the contacts are tinned, which can oxidize. In that case it's a matter of gently rubbing the contact strip with a paper eraser until the contacts become shiny. Of course, that means disassembling the camera ;)

You've probably retired this camera or don't have it anymore but in case you still have it, I hope this helps a bit.

Nikon D300 When I depress the shutter half way or fully on my D300 the frame counter reads r27 and the lens (any previously compatible Nikkor lens) will not auto focus. The camera is not set in burst mode...

Only reason the lens will not auto focus when you depress the shutter half way is due to either lens AF switch is set to Manual OR camera body's focus system is on M. There is 3 way toggle switch below the synch port around the lens mount. It should be set to C or S in order for auto focus to work. If all the settings are correct and even "AF-ON", next to rear dial doesn't activate auto focus then the issue maybe in the setting or the body itself. As for the buffer reading r27, I think mine displays r## regardless of burst/continuous mode.

Nikon d40 autofocus

Look on the left side of the lens. Make sure the button is on A for auto focus and not M for manual. OR not stuck in the middle. Hopefully that will solve the problem.

Why doesn't the shutter button on my EasyShare digital camera work?

The cause and solution may include one of the following: The camera is not turned on. Turn on the camera. The camera is processing a picture; the camera Power ring light (on the Mode dial) blinks green. Wait until the light stops blinking before taking another picture. The card or internal memory is full. Transfer pictures to the computer, delete pictures from the camera, switch storage locations, or insert a memory card with available memory. The shutter button was not pressed. Depress the shutter button completely down. There was a failure in the focus and/or exposure. Press the shutter button halfway to set the Auto Focus (AF) and Auto Exposure (AE). When the AF/AE indicator turns green, press the shutter button completely down. The battery is exhausted. Replace or recharge the battery
