You have not mentioned the make and model no of your camera. still then the problem you described is because of faulty CCD.Some companies change them free of cost regardless to the expiry of warranty, or you can get it changed on cost at the repair shop.

The camera appears fine. But my photos have pink streaks in them? WHY?

This is most likely due to a defect in the camera's sensor-- either from being dropped or perhaps from having part of the camera's sensor "burned out" by being pointed at direct sunlight for extended periods of time. (Most likely the first scenario.) You may be able to take it to a local camera shop for troubleshooting, though the repair (replacement of the image sensor) would likely exceed the value of the camera.

When about to take photo, the image on the viewfinder goes pink, and it looks as if it is 'melting' or as if there are icicles dripping from the subject. It has done this before but then seems to rectify...

Possible fault in the imager. the CCD can be defective and correcting itself when put off for sometime. This can be the weakness due to long time exposure to high intensity light, long time of use.

Pink streaks across the photo

CCD image sensor chip is failing & requires replacing . Contact your nearest Service for quote. But probably more economical to replace camera with new one. Sell faulty one on ebay, its still worth money for parts :)
