Some manufacturers will only support the OS that comes with the computer. If you originally had Vista, you are fighting a lost battle. But if it had xp when you bought it, go to the store and don't leave until they have it working. Otherwise get a refund.
You can try it but the sound card is not designed for XP so it probably will not work. If you want to use XP on this laptop and have sound you will have to purchase a cheap external USB sound device like this:
It costs $9.99 and has free shipping. It has 5.1 surround sound and microphone input too. It is the only way to go if you want to run XP. Please take the time to rate this a fixya. I searched for an hour trying to find an xp driver that would work for you but there is not even a hacked on available yet. There are diehard XP gurus out there writting homebrew XP drivers but they have not made it around to this one yet. The external is a good workaround till then and its only 10 bucks. Thanks George
