DVD Recorder Samsung

I have used a laser cleaner lots of times. I have the right type of disc (dvd-r) - does the speed at which it writes make any difference? Some are labelled 1-4x; some are 1-16x?

1-16 just allows it to record faster a better quality disk. It is possable that some cheaper disks may not work as unit gets older and laser gets weak. May need laser manualy cleaned.
this can be done with isopal alchol and a Q-tip if you can get to it. It depends on if you want to start disasembling yourself or take it to someone that can. local electronics handy man. or repair shop.

I have a Panasonic DMR-ES35V DVD Recorder. The manual recommends their lens cleaner RP-CL720PP which is discontinued. Is it safe to use a generic CD/DVD lens cleaner for players? Or do I need one...

You should use a specific DVD lens cleaner for your recorder, there are generic ones available I am sure. I do not recommend CD/DVD lens cleaners - far too abrasive, and there is a risk of damage to your unit if you use this type.

A generic DVD lens cleaner should do no harm and does not cost a lot. The type of cleaner I have used in the past is exactly like a DVD disc, with fine bristles, is a dry type, and it gently removes the grime and dirt film from the lens eye (you can probably obtain a wet and dry type that comes with a small bottle of fluid). These are the most reliable, and, unlike original CD lens cleaners, are far less abrasive. These lens cleaners usually work in DVD players and recorders, I've never had any issue after using this type.

Give that a try, see how you go.

Hi, I have a Samsung DVD-VR300E dvd/vcr combo. The DVD player won't read any DVDs anymore, whether bought or recorded. What I don't understand is that it does still read the DVD cleaner disk! It won't read...

The laser in the DVD drive may be shot (?), even though it seems to read the DVD cleaner disc. I attended a maintenance class on cleaning CD and DVD writer drives for PCs and was told not to use the disc cleaners with brushes as they can knock the laser out of alignment. It's best to use a can of pressurized air to clean a drive when it's open. Just make sure not to allow any of the propellant to get inside!

When I put a DVD-R into the DVD-R 155 recorder to copy a TV program after a few minutes of the blue disc at spinning at the top right of my TV screen the disc is ejected with the message 'disc cannot be...

This is a Samsung DVD recorder - I've had the exact same problem - By the way, don't you mean "this disc cannot be recorded" ? These DVD recorders are known to reject certain type of discs.

* Have you updated your Samsung with the latest firmware ?

Follow the instructions carefuly and please understand the risks involved in flashing your drive - Do not interrupt the process, it can take long.

* here are the brands of DVD-R I have used successfuly with this recorder int he past:

Taiyo Yuiden DVD-R 4x / 8x (the optical drives used in those recorders are outdated, their writing strategies are never up to date and may not recognize some type of discs)
Maxell DVD-R 4x / 8x
Verbatim DVD-R 4x / 8x

Try another blank disc - maybe it will accept it - if it keeps rejecting all your blank DVD-R no matter what brand, you have a bad drive inside your recorder - the samsung recorders are **** - I have ever since gotten rid of that piece of **** and now use a Sony HDR-780 HDD/DVD recorder, uses pioneer components and is great !

Avoid those lens cleaners - they can do more harm than good!

I hope this helps.

Try different brands of DVD-R, avoid the cheap generic **** - drives like best Taiyo Yuden & Verbatim media id codes - they should recognize Maxells, verbatims, sony, taiyo yuden, ritek. if it keeps spitting out all discs you use, you have a defective unit. The latest firmware on that drive should also help !

Good luck :)

Has really slowed down dubbing - and disc is heated when removed, after only one dubbing and finalizing.

The speed of dubbing depends on the max writing speed of the disc used.
A disc always gets warm after using, the laser gets verry hot.

I also was having same issue's with blank DVD's with 16x or higher ratings. I remembered that when I first used the recorder their was only 1-4x write speeds available so I started to look for these specific dvd's. It took me a while but I did find some and ordered a set of 25 five to try and the recorder worked.

So the issue is that the recorder will not read any dvd rated more than 4x, and the under side of the dvd's rated 8x and faster are a different color that the laser is not able to read. The dvd's are made by Philips brand rated at 1x-4x and are DVD+RW, I haven't found the DVD+R' yet but am still looking.

I found these DVD's at and the minimum amount was a 25 disc spindle but I think you could get 50 or 100 but am not sure so look around a bit but these will work. I put one in my DVD recorder and was formatted within a minute and was asked if I wanted to name the disc which I had not seen in a while.

Anyway you all can use your recorders again and my dad will get to use hid for the first time as he has had this problem right out of the box!!! I think the owners manuel specify's you to use 1x-4x but am not positive.
