My Vista 64 can't install Xerox PE 220

I can't install pe 220 in my vista 64 premium. cd driver from the package can't give me a driver for vista 64. i've download driver from xerox.com, but still can't find me a better soultion.
control centre program from the cd can't be installed... i don't know why....
and, i want to know, how to install the pe 220 firmware. can someone tell me how to do this?

    oh no! and here i thought it was just me! has ANYONE actually solved this problem or should i try to return the printer while i hopefully still can...?

    I've got Vista Home Premium (32 bit) and I can't get the scanner to work either. The thing prints and copies but can't scan!

    Let's turn XP back is better.

    Hi all,

    I read your messate on fixya.com regarding the solution for the problem of installation of the scaner of the Xerox PE 220. I did as you recomended - means install it by Windows update - it takes long time and successfully installed but I can not use it in any software like Paper port, Corel....

    I faced exactly the same problem as kitronit described

    "When I intialize the PaperPort scanner software that came with the printer, I am required to set up and test the scanner using the ScanSoft Scanner Setup Wizard. The Wizard is able to see my scanner. When the Wizard tested my scanner, I got the following error: "The Wizard cannot find your scanner.". The same message provided several tips such as checking that the scanner is on and connected (I did - and besides, I am able to print to the same machine so there is obviously not a problem with the connection), restarting Windows (I did), and checking that the scanner works with another application.
    I then tried scanning a test document using Microsoft Office Document Scanning software, but I got the following error: "Unable to initialize scanner. Check scanner connection and scanner software." Of course, I know that the scanner connection is fine, since I have no problem printing to the same machine, so obviously that is not the problem..."

    It is interesting that I used this scaner normally before with the same OS (Windows Vista Home Basis 32 bit). Last week I decided to reinstall the whole laptop since it was heavy already and I could not reinstall the scaner this time - I don't know why ? Seems everything is the same - OS is the same, the driver for it for Windows Vista I downloaded and installed properly and the laptop sees it in all programs but any time I start scaning it can not be initialized (Some error in initializing the scaner !)

    Do you have any idea to help me - I tried many ways already.

    I have the same problem and downloading the latest update from Window update did not fix the problem either. The printing works ok. but not the scanner or the fax.

    Thanks for posting your solution. Are you able to scan with your printer or just print with it?

    I was able to install the necessary scanner drivers (or so says Windows Device Manager), but I have problems with the Control Centre and scanner software, and until this is resolved, I can't use the scanner/fax. Note - the printer works fine, just not the scanner/fax.

Okay my friends,

This is Tekin from Turkey. I solved the problem.

However Xerox says "this product works on Vista", I discovered Vista Starter and Basic editions are not support this product. I tried on Vista Home Premium 32. PE220 original driver CD does not include right Vista drivers as I learn. So, you should need internet connection, this means PE220's right driver will be installed via Windows update.

I do that, and three right drivers of PE220 was installed to my OS. And now I can use my work center.

Fax, Scanner and Printer. There is no problem.

Canon MP500 all in one printer is not compatible with Windows Vista. Is there a solution for this problem, or do I need to buy a different printer?


My Canon PIXMA MP500, purchased in mid-2006, came with the (then) ScanSoft OmniPage SE2 software on a CD. The PC had WinXP Installed. I had no use for the ScanSoft it so I made no effort to install it.
Fast Forward:
Two PC crashes later, July 2009. Using Win Vista Home Premium
LOST, important WinWord document file, only a hard copy available.
I tried to recover, scanning the "Xerox" copy. The SE Version of OmniPage was very complicated but I succeeded in producing a replacement *.doc file.

It appears that newer editions of WinVista contain the right printer drivers for this Canon Model.

YOU MUST CHANGE THE CHIP BECAUSE WHEN THE MACHINE SAYING THAT THE TONER IS EMPTY ALTHOUGH IT IS PRINTING IT DOESN'T PRINT THE FAXES

LSU indicates a laser problem.
What is the model number? I can give you more information with the proper model number.
