How to turn on wireless switch on a desktop

I've never seen a 'switch' on a desktop to turn-on wireless, like there are on Laptops/Notebooks.

Usually it is either a device that is install in a slot in the PC, or it is a USB plug-in adapter. There ARE some motherboards with built-in Wireless ability, those can be turned-On/Off in the BIOS.

You would have to have a Wireless Router/Wireless Access Point in place already, it would need to be setup and security enabled.

Then it would be a matter of installing the driver for the device....WHEN you do that depends on the type of adapter you have:

add-on slot adapter -- Install adapter, then driver software
USB -- install driver software, DO NOT plug-in adapter until directed to do so, or the driver installation finishes.

How can i get my emachine desktop to go wireless?

First you need a wireless router. If your router downstairs is wireless then the easiest thing to do is buy a USB wireless adapter for your desktop. All you need to install that USB wireless adapter is to plug it into one of your USB ports and install the driver for it. Depending on your operating system and model of your USB adapter, the operating system may even automatically install the driver for you.

Computer not conecting to internet

If you have not installed the USB adapter driver and configured the wireless network , you need to do that to connect to the internet. Once you have cd and installed the driver , you need to enter Wireless access key or SID to set the adapter to connect .

How do i set up wireless internet on my hp pavillion a330n desktop? Do i need a wireless card or is it built in? and where do i put the wireless card if i need one?

Hello,

Yes you need a wireless adapter.

Solution one : Get PCI wireless adapter which you will insert in an empty PCI slot inside your computer.

Solution 2. Buy a USB wireless adapter, which you plug in a USB port.
However, if my memory serves me right, that particular HP pavillion is 5 or 6 years old, and it does support USB 2.0, just USB 1.1

My advice to you is to buy a USB 2.0 PCI card to be installed in an empty PCI slot )or in the one occupied by the firewire )if not needed). This card will provide 4 or 5 USB 2.0 adapters. Then buy a USB wireless adapter, which you will be able to use with other computers.

Hope It helps.

I need to reinstall my wireless internet driver

1. go to the manufacturer of your wireless card adapter
2. dowload the latest driver for your wireless adapter matching the operating system you're using.
3. uninstall the driver by going to start>right click my computer>properties>hardware tab>device manager> go into network adapters>right click the network adapter for which you want to reinstall the driver and click uninstall (you may want to restart your computer). when you do the new hardware wizard may come up and you may want to do either one this:
a. if your wireless adapter is a usb adapter: unplug it, run the driver installation file you download in step 1 and 2 and replug the usb adapter as directed.
b. if your wireless adapter is a pci card: you can run the installation driver file you download or you may want to manually install the driver using the add new hardware that came up when you restart your computer and point to the folder where the driver is (cd or driver you download from internet)

How can I connect a wireless adapter to my toshiba portege 660 cdt as there is not a port on it for the usb to fit in to

Hi,

I am assuming that your wireless adapter is USB and that your Toshiba Portege 660 CDT has a PCMCIA slot. If yes then you would need something like a PCMCIA USB 2.0 Card adapter as shown here. The added advantage is that you would have an extra USB port. Just pls make sure that the PCMCIA USB 2.0 Card adapter you will purchase is compatible with your laptop and has drivers appropriate for your Operating System.

Alternately, you can try swapping your USB WiFi for a PCMCIA version similar to this. Again, pls make sure that the PCMCIA Wireless network card you will purchase is compatible with your laptop and has drivers appropriate for your Operating System.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
