I have an Epson R200 printer and need to dismantle it to gain access to the cleaning pads to either replace them or wash them. How do I dismantle the printer without breaking any of the small plastic tabs within the casing? Robert Burch

You can see the waste pad by opening the access panel on the back of theprinter. Open the access panel on therear of the printer (remove screw) You will see a tube (down and to yourleft) coming from the cleaning pump and it will have an open end onit. This is the tube that delivers ink to the waste pad. Use a piece of coathanger wire or equivalent, and fish out this piece of tube. Bring it tothe outside of the printer, thru the access panel. Find yourself a suitablecontainer (Tupperware or a plastic cup or jar) that is not too tall. Putthe tube into this container and secure the tube and container so they won'tcome apart or lose connection if the printer is moved. If you wish you can makea hole or notch in the access panel cover so it can be replaced. Now the inkwill go into this container and not into the waste pad inside theprinter. If it gets full, dump it.I have an Epson R200 - csts_7.jpg

All printers have a built in ink counter. These are designed to stop the waste ink pads from over filling. The trouble is the counters are only set to 45% capacity. When this is reached your printer will stop working, until the pads are changed and the counter is reset. There is a way of doing this your self, download a simple utility called "SSC Service Utility" at this link. http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml. I did this for my R200 some years ago and it is still working fine. You can eventually change the pads via a small panel at the rear by simply unscrewing a small screw.Mac#

Is the waste pad full ?
If the waste pad is actually full and ink is about to overflow, then you need to install a waste container. You can see the waste pad by opening the access panel on the back of the printer.
Changing the waste pad requires almost complete disassembly of the printer, it is a big job. There is an easier way.
Open the access panel on the rear of the printer (remove screw) and look inside carefullly with a flashlight. You will see a tube (down and to your left) coming from the cleaning pump and it will have an open end on it. This is the tube that delivers ink to the waste pad.
Use a piece of coathanger wire or equivalent, and fish out this piece of tube. Bring it to the outside of the printer, thru the access panel.
Find yourself a suitable container (Tupperware or a plastic cup or jar) that is not too tall. Put the tube into this container and secure the tube and container so they won't come apart or lose connection if the printer is moved.
If you wish you can make a hole or notch in the access panel cover so it can be replaced.
Now the ink will go into this container and not into the waste pad inside the printer. If it gets full, dump it.

My printer is EPSON R230 "Service

You need to reset your printer. Google search for "indoreset for r230", that is the program that you can use to reset your printer. Or you can use the SSC Service Utility, just search for it in the net. You particularly need to reset the waste ink pad counter.

After you reset your printer, check the back of your r230, you will see there a small access cover with a screw. Unscrew it. Take a look inside and you will see a tube connected to the waste ink tank, try to disconnect it from the waste ink tank, carefully pulling it out the access window. Do not force it out completely, you will be able to pull out only about an inch of the tube. When the tube is out, get another tube (silicon or plastic) around 6 inches long would do (12 inches will be fine)that would fit in that tube you've just pulled out, then get an empty plastic bottle with a cover, puncture a hole in the cover and put the other end of the tube in that hole, that plastic bottle will be your new waste ink tank. You are doing all these so you woudn't have to dismantle your printer to remove and replace the waste ink pads inside your printer.

After doing all these you can now use your printer again. You just need to empty the plastic bottle regularly. And when the time comes to reset your printer again, just use the program again and that's it.

I have an epson stylus photo R200. It has stopped working and has alternate red flashing lights. Error message says serviceable parts are nearing end of life. How do I get it to carry on working?

I'm not sure about the servicable parts. You might want to contact Epson.

I have seen "parts are nearing the end of life" which applies to the ink pads that absorb excess ink. In that case, the printer needs to be replaced or serviced by Epson or an independent service provider. If you just get the ink pads serviced, it may still fail soon. Then you can run the resrt utility. For more information and the reset utility: http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/InkPadsForm.jsp?cookies=no&com.broadvision.session.new=Yes

I hope this helps.

My Epson Stylus R230 has both red lights blinking alternately do you know how i can fix this please??

You need to reset waste ink counter. Use SSC Utility or R230 Adjusment program. Find at indoreset.blogspot.com. Don't forget to replace waste ink pad, or just extend outlet pipe of head cleaning mech to outside bottle.
