Hi again, I'm sorry to say I did what you said and it did not help. It takes the paper through, it sounds like it's printing normally but there is no trace of ink. The ink was replaced only a few days ago. However the printer has not been used for awhile and I had to download the software myself (- if that makes a difference). It did print out the word 'contents' in blue (from the help contents) with a question mark below it, however the colored ink has not been replaced and should be pretty much dried up, I tried doing that again but it wouldn't. Thanks for your time, Oly
Hi,
Sorry I was out of town today for a doctor's appointment in the big city.
We can figure this out and get you fixed if you are willing to work through this with me.
First, I need to know just a few things.
Lets start with how your printer is connected to your computer. Is this connected using a USB cable? Forgive me, but I'm not sure what your level of knowledge is so I don't me to patronize you. A USB cable is small and round. A paralelle cable is much thinker and round and connects to the pinkish red port on your computer whereas the USB inserts into a thin rectangular plug.
This information is quite important if you downloaded and installed the software yourself.
If your printer has two cartridges, one for black and the other color and you are only getting some blue ink That would be indicitive of your color cartridge being dried up.
When you state the ink was replaced a few days ago, this is the black ink? Yes? Can you open up the cover and the cartridges move to the center for removal do that. If it doesn't is there a function button you press to Change Ink? In either case, do this and remove the black cartridge, and bear with me here, check to ensure you've actually removed the clear tape from the bottom of the black cartridge. This happens all the time so if you wouldn't mind checking this I'd appreciate that and with that information and the type of cable you use to connect to your computer I can get you back in business by end of the day or night, tomorrow.
Thanks,
Worldvet

Possibly sounding silly here, (again) but have you removed the seal from the toner cartridge (This is a breakaway plastic tab, connected to a length on plastic, which seals the toner for transit)
If this has not been removed from the cartridge then it fails in just the way you are describing
