While updating the driver to my Creative Soundblaster 64V soundcard
(7505358.exe on the Gateway site) I came across a problem. At reboot, I get
an error message that says:
MMTASK - This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut
down.
When I click on it, it then says:
MMTASK - An error has occurred in your program. To keep working anyway,
click Ignore and save your work in a new file. To quit this program, click
Close. You will lose information you entered since your last save.
When I click to close it., I have no sound. I e-mailed Tech Support, but
apparently they don't read the entire thread to a message because they keep
saying to download the driver for the card and install and then ignore the
4Mb and 8Mb MIDI files. That doesn't solve the problem at all.
I used Go-Back to restore the driver back to the original one.

What OS what version of MMTASK is installed.
Press the Details button when the error pops up then press Print Screen.
Open MS Paint and click Edit then paste and save it then post the details
here.
Without further info it would be hard to figure out what's wrong.
Also the Intel drivers I believe are the best for the sound card which is
built into the Intel Motherboard as they solve a lot of weird errors and
other problems.

Not sure of the exact contents of the Gateway file, but I have not had
any problems with the Soundblaster 64V files found on the Intel web
site in support of the chips found on the Intel BI440ZX. I'd suggest
going to the Creative web site and downloading whatever drivers are
available there... Ben Myers
