Lens won't retract and I get an error message saying 'focus error'. Have tried turning off and then on again, also removed batteries and replaced. But no luck.

Your camera has a lens error, this is such a common fault that I hope you don't mind me pasting my stock generic answer below. No point in reinventing the wheel!

Stuck lenses are probably the most common reason that compact digital cameras get thrown away, but there's a fair chance of recovering use of your camera again

The fault is commonly caused by dirt or grit blocking the mechanism, or due to it having suffered a recent fall. Another common cause is that the camera was in a pocket or bag and the power button accidentally activated and tried to open the lens against resistance. The mechanism may have simply become dislodged or there may be parts which have broken.

If your camera is still under warranty and has definitely not been subject to misuse then contact the Fuji service department in your country to find out about a free repair. If the warranty has expired though a professional repair will far exceed the cost of replacing your camera. You will therefore have nothing to lose by trying to fix this yourself.

Please click here and you will be taken to an excellent article provided by the Camera Repair website. For the most part, you'll be guided on how to physically manipulate your camera to try and clear the fault. Although the article mentions Canon a few times, the advice applies equally to all cameras with lens errors and is not model-specific.

If the link doesn't work then cut and paste the following address into your browser:-

Good luck, I hope you manage to use this information to fix your camera, or at least are able to use the information to help decide whether to buy another camera. If you do decide that you have to throw your camera away then don't forget to remove the memory card as it can be used in other devices. Please take a moment to rate the speedy and free answer I have provided for you and any testimonial which you might wish to add is always welcome.

Showing lens control error fuji finefix HS 30 exr

Does it say Lens control error, or does it say Focus error, turn off the camera and turn it on again?
The last can happen when you touch the lens barrel. When the lens does not retract when you shut down the camera, perhaps the battery is exhausted or the barrel got stuck.
Try to recharge the battery and start all over again. If nothing goes, try carefully to pull out the lens a little Less then one millimetre. or gently press it back a little. Be aware the camera is a very delicate piece of equipment, so don't use force, because that could damage the camera definitive.
In the manual, it says you should contact FujiFilm, when the error comes back after you switched off and on. So if nothing helps, that is the last option. Visit a repair shop from Fuji, or bring a visit to your dealer.

Turn off camera and turn back on will not go away

I guess your camera has the message turn off the camera and turn on again.
This message will occur when the camera has any malfunction. Could be caused because you obstructed the lens while focusing or zooming. Could be lots of other things.
If the switching is not enough and you observed the lens is retracting complete when switching off. Please remove the battery for a little while. Perhaps you could use the time to recharge the battery. Then when you replace the battery and the camera still gives this error, there is only one thing you can do: Please contact a FujiFilm dealer.

My Panasonic TZ25 says "System Error - Focus". What should I do?

Panasonic DMC TZ25 compact camera - System Error (Focus)
- Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera (suggested by Andrea Lock, above). I actually had to try this several times as camera was refusing to reset properly, but after a few goes, lens retracted and camera began to work again. Thanks Andrea.

Lens will not extend when turned on message on screen lens error

Hi,

This error indicate that focusing ring got stuck or jammed due sand, dust or may be due to external shock caused by dropping the device.
  • Try compressed air. With a fine tip blow off gun around lens barrel. It should remove all dust and sand. Turn the camera on this will solve the problem.
  • You can gently bump the camera to try to free the focusing ring.
  • You can try to turn camera ON at the table (facing it to the ceiling), don't put camera down face to the floor when opening.

If motor is running but lens won't retract sometimes lens would slip off with the gear or break off a tooth in the gear when it gets dropped. Try to gently move the lens barrel around with the finger and see if it is moving, but if tooth or gear is broken lens will move once or twice then it will stuck again.

Else your camera need to be disassembled to get at the focusing ring at Service Center.

Thanks and have a nice day

System Error (Focus)

The systems control board has detected a problem with the auto focus lens, the focus is controlled by a tiny motor that has jammed or there is a mechanical issue with the camera lens. It will require a technician that is highly skilled to deal with the situation, but the repair cost would probably not be justified.

Panasonic DMC-FX35 error message

Sounds as if it has either received a knock, or foreign matter (grit etc) has got into the lens mechanism.

Lens error

Same problem here - the forum posting on the SD 500 seems to be a bit more active (for the same problem).

I have been trying to get some images or a service manual for the SD 700, with no luck...

Lens/focus err

I had the exact same problem in September 2007 (must be built in obsolence). I sent mine to Fuji's repair center to get repaired. Unfortunately, it becomes a decision of whether to get it repaired or buy a new one (repair cost ~$160). The kicker is now the flash will not work. I get a message/warning of camera shake. The manual says it's something to do with the shutter speed but no mention on how to correct it. So it becomes another decision of do I throw more money at it (send back for repair) or bite the bullet and buy a new camera.

Good luck!
