Question about MSI Wireless-G RG54G3 Router

Is not connecting for both computers to be on internet

We have a HP and Dell computer hooked up with the router. Have had it about 4 yrs and suddenly it will not allow us to both be on internet at same time. We have Clearwire Internet. Is there someway to troubleshoot the problem or do they wear out and need to be replaced? I am very frustrated at this point and really need both computers to be on internet at same time.
Thank you for what assistance you may provide.

-- who is your internet service provider
-- what is the operating system of your computer?
-- is this working fine before or is this a brand new router

i have read the same problem on the supportrix forum and you may try this and see if this help solve your problem. make sure your computer is directly connected to the router

Step 1: Shutdown the computer.
Step 2: reset the router while power on then Unplug the router’s power cable.
Step 3: Unplug the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for 30 seconds.
Step 4: Plug in the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for its lights to appear stable.
Step 5: Plug in the router's power cable once the modem’s lights appear stable.
Step 6: Power on the computer on and configure the router settings
Step 7: test the Internet connection.

if this still didnot work, upgrade the firmware of your router and repeat the same steps.

configuring the router settings will depends who is your provider. if your isp is dsl you need to configure your ISP username (email address format) and password on the router. if your router is a cable no need to change any settings on the router. it should automatically work. if the problem is still the same, there is a possiblity that the router might be internally defective

if you are still having trouble configuring your device, try to call supportrix

You can try other options such as these
1. Try disabling or uninstalling your Firewall / Antivirus 2. Uninstall your Wireless Application and use the wireless zero configuration on your computer 3. Try resetting your router to its factory defaults 4. Try hooking up a ethernet cable to the router see if your getting internet access.

I need to know a few things about the network.

So you have a motorola modem, could you look at its bottom label and tell me its brand and model.

So that modem is connected to the internet, and a cable from this modem goes to a router yes? no? And is it connected on the DSL, or INTERNET port on the router? most likely separate from other ports and may have different coloring.

And then from there, are you connecting wirelessly to the router or with wires?

Can't get router to connect to Dell Dimension 2400 desktop

Try turning OFF DHCP from services. This may fix your problem. Look for "DHCP Client", double click on it (or right click and choose properties), STOP the service, then set it's startup type to 'manual'. That'll kill it. See DHCP is what "Gives out/assigns addresses" and on the ONLY PC, it is the First one... Both PC's will be assigning themselves as that, and that will cause a conflict. As the Router now does the DHCP work. Of course ensure you DO have DHCP set on router.

I have dsl and want to hook up wireless router to run 2 computers when i plug into th router i have no connection at all'

You need to setup first your WIRELESS ROUTER when you want to hook it up on your DSL router. If I we're you, much better to call either the company of the wireless router and call your ISP (Internet Service Provider) for them to set it up. But if you we're using a DELL computer, better to call DELL Technical support for configuration of your wireless router. Thank you.

Just bought a HP Laptop along with a Linksys WRT160N router. Currently have a Dell desktop w/service by local cable company. CANNOT get this router set up to get internet on the laptop. Help?

Hi! I will be more than glad to assist u in this concern..That is right! if u bypass the router it will work, the reason why the modem wont talk to the router bcoz the router is not properly setup.. if you are using a cable modem from ur cable company provider- u need to do a mac clone on the router ,u have to clone the mac address of ur dell desktop computer which works with the local cable company... normaly the mac of ur computer is the one register to your cable company and on the setup page of the router just select on the internet setup, dhcp after clonning the mac address of your computer. u need to connect ur computer directly to the router and then after doing the process connect the router to the modem.

Router problem

Hi .
First who is your service provider?
Can you connect to the internet if you directly hook your modem to your computer.
1>If so connect your Modem to your router on the colour code slot on the router which says modem
2>Connect a cable from the router to your computer
3>The lan light on the router should be turned on
4>Check wether your lan says connected . To check that click start-> control pannel -> network connections
5>If it says connected try internet explorer settings
6>If it says limited or no connectivity
Click start ->run -> cmd->ipconfig
7>It should say ip address as : 169.254.x.x.
8>If so type ipconfig/release
9>It shoul say ip address:
10>Type ipconfig/renew on command promt
12>Disable and enable lan

Let me know if this helped and also if you dont what kind of messages you get .

Hooking up a second computer

If your HP computer is connected with a wire to the router, you don't need to run or install the setup CD of the router you just need to connect the HP computer to the router with an ethernet cable and restart the HP computer and internet should already be working fine, But if your Hp computer is going to work wirelessly with the router meaning the HP will not be connected with a wire to the router, You just need to connect to the wireless network of your router if your not familiar with that I will advice you to call Linksys tech support so one of their tech can walk you through with that process they are open 24/7 this is the number 800-3267114.........

Hope that helps............

Have an Acer Aspire PC computer - trying to hook up a Lynksys nr041 router so can hook up another HP Notebook computer...not for sure how to do this and be able to use internet on both computers. Thanks...

Ok if you have DSL this router will NOT connect via PPPoE so no user name or passwords for dsl. But if you have a cable modem just plug the network cord from your cable modem into the WAN port on router... then plug the computers into the 1-4 ports on the router.. you might need to reset your Cable/Dsl modem after everythings hooked up.

Question on setting up two computers

Yes, I have pretty much the same setup at home. Wired desktop and wireless laptop. On the back of your wireless router, there should be 4 or 5 wired connections which you can use. You will only have to use the setup disk on one computer. Basically, the setup disk is for the router, not the computers, it simply guides you through the router configuration process. You can also do this manually, the manual for the router will give those instructions as well.
