Quick question...if there is such a thing

I have a samsung txr3079 tv. when i plug it in i can hear things power up, the red light next to the power button comes on, but the tv will not turn on and there is no sound. does this sound like something that is worth getting checked out or is my tv destined to make its way to the trash?

yeah my tv shut off on its own and now will not power up sound or picture only the red light blinks on front and according to the site justanswer.com they told me for a $9 charge that it is most likely a capacitor or power supply issue and will likely cost $200-$300 to repair. its only 2.5 years old and i will not buy SAMSUNG again.

I am also having the same issue where there is no picture or sound, but the red light blinks when I attempt to use the remote.  I too have had it for just over two years.  I was never happy with the picture quality; the black bars on the sides were never straight and the outer thirds of the screen is less than crisp when I playing full-screen high-def channels and movies.  This was the worst purchase I have ever made.  I should have spent the extra couple of hundred dollars to go lcd or plasma, but I cheaped out and I am now paying for it.  If the fuse trick does not work, I will be looking for an electronics recycler in the area since a $300 dollar repair can't be justified on a TV that was $800 over two years ago.

Esullivan:

I had the same problem with my Samsung TV Model: TXR3079WHX. I troubleshot my problem with a can of component cooler from Radio Shack and found my problem to be a defective voltage regulator, identified as "QR015" on the main circuit board (the same board that contains the high voltage section).

Caution:

Before I proceed any further I need to strongly warn you. Do not attempt to remove the back cover, troubleshoot, repair or perform the actions that I have done, if you are not a "qualified service technician". Removing the back cover exposes you (and anyone else) to harmful and deadly electric shock, even though the TV may be unplugged from the wall outlet and turned off. You (or anyone else) can be seriously injured or even killed. If you are not qualified, play it safe by allowing others who are qualified repair this for you.

The defective part (overheats and shuts your TV off) is voltage regulator manufactured by Fairchild. The part number is KA75450ZTA. This part is available from Mouser Electronics for less than 20 cents plus shipping. In order to replace this part a qualified technician will need to remove certain cables and unscrew the main board to allow access to desolder and solder the new component.

Hope this helps.

Did you get an answer about whether to pay to get it fixed? I replaced the fuse and it didn't work.

I have a Samsung TXF2899 28" TV that is not turning on. When I press the power button on, I hear the power-on sound, it's red power indicator light blinks 10 times as if running a test but then...

It's running through a self diagnosis when the light blinks. The 10 blinks just happens to be how long it take to find a problem. Would have to be plugged into Variac and started at about 90 volts in order to keep it from shutting down. The life of a Television is averaged at 10 years, however most last longer and it could be something very simple to fix or something major. Thing is get an estimate from a reputable co before having it fixed and consider the cost to repair, age of the TV vs the price and warranty of a new one.

Samsung TXN2668WHF Does not power on, blinking red light

Any malfunction associated with a flashing light usually indicates a circuit problem or defective component. Unfortunately, the days of taking off the back cover of your TV and replacing a defective tube or fuse are long gone. Proper servicing will require troubleshooting procedures that can only be performed by a qualified electronic repair facility or professional television repair person. Ask for an estimate and a realistic appraisal of whether the set can be adequately fixed. Depending on the age and condition of your TV it may not be cost effective to repair.

I had the same problem with my Samsung TV Model: TXR3079WHX. However, I was able to repair my set while it was still intermittant (would turn off by itself after 30 minutes of operating, would have to wait 5 minutes before it would turn on again).

I troubleshot my problem with a can of component cooler from Radio Shack and found my problem to be a defective voltage regulator, identified as "QR015" on the main circuit board (the same board that contains the high voltage section).

Samsung DLP

First try a "hard rest" , unplug tv for 5 minutes then plug it back in when you go to turn it on hold the power button in for a minute or until you hear a beep , if that doesn't work , could several things , let me know if the hard reset works first.

Power button Flashes

For the first one, please list the model number and count the blinks. Also, can you please post each problem separately. It will get too confusing trying to address 3 sets with different but similar problems.
Thanks,

Flashing screen

The power compensator IC is bad along with most likley the main board. This is going to be an expensive repair. If the warranty expired in January, and you were in touch with them about then and they did nothing, you should try to fight with them. They may send out a repair person to get your set working again. Another possibility would be, if you have homew owners insurance and a tech can say that the problem was due to a power surge, the insurance will take care of part of the repair bill. Good Luck
