The electricity went out and all the meat in my freezer went bad.. How do I get the odor out? I'm planning on leaving my house for several weeks and don't know if I should leave it unplugged and open to ventilate or keep it on while gone.

Keep the meat in the freezer and keep the refrigerators plugged on and after u return u take it out clean and eat because if u open the dour will spread to ur whole room and when u return to ur home after several weeks u ll feel the odour still remaining in ur room so its better to close the door and plug it to on and go

Use several open boxes of Arm and Hammer baking soda. These will absorb the odor for sure.

Keep it on!

    The more boxes the better!

Be sure to open them up across the top for better efficiency.

There is and odor that permeates the ice, freezer, and fridge. It makes the ice taste funny.

This could be because of other stuff in the fridge. Meat usually gives a weird odor and taste when its in the fridge with something else.

Meat thawed in our Dometic model 2652 RV freezer. The refrigerator part does not smell but the freezer still does. I think meat juice went into in sulation under bottom panel in freezer. Help!

I have had some success with first spraying the unit down with a solution of baking soda and water, and then letting it dry. But we have also had some success with a product called Advanage when we mixed it 5 to 1. It can be ordered from www.advanagedp.com NOTE: The cirtus works better than the apple for getting rid of the odors.

What is the normal problem when the refrigerator just stops cooling. We have had it about 2 years and while we were on vacation it quit cooling. Also, what do you suggest to get the smell of spoiled meat...

There can be many causes - if it COMPLETLY stopped cooling, as in the evap fans are working but compressor is not running and absolutely no cool air coming out, then most common problem is a control board/motherboard problem - in other more rare cases, a sealed system leak - the first common things to check are motherboard/control board, defrost control components and compressor/sealed system.

As far as the bad smell if you plan on emptying your freezer and refrigerator, it would be a good thing to give it a good clean on the insides, it's no use keeping food in there if compressor is not running - so you could leave the doors open so odors can dissipate eventually - once cleaned up you could place an opened box of baking soda that should help absorb bad odors too. Some smells can be quite tough and will resolve over time. Clean any stains, leaks, debris etc from food.

Manufacturers are now cutting corners, against lower prices and at th e cost of quality, things like that happen more frequently on newer refrigerators than older ones. It seems the days where you could run a refrigerator for 20 years are long gone - if you can run a newer refrigerator for 5 years you are lucky, mind you some do just fine.

Odor in refrigerator caused by defrosted meats in freezer which sat for 3 weeks

Here's what I would do: take it outside, if it's not already, open the doors, spray the entire interior with oven cleaner and allow it to dry. Then I would hose out the oven cleaner, it should take remaining matter and the stink with it.

Fridge odor

There are a couple of methods to help remove odors from a fridge. The first is a cookie sheet with baking soda spread across it left in the fridge for several days. The other is something called Activated Carbon. Most stores sell it as a carbon odor filter and it is pretty cheap. It actually works better then the baking soda so I recommend you pick some up and just leave it inside the fridge. You can also put this behind your fridge or wherever you have foul odors. Hope this helps.

Ice from Ice maker smells and has a bad taste. Whirlpool model ED22TQXFW00.

if the ice has been in the freezer ice bin for a couple of weeks or if you added any food to the freezer that is not totaly frozen before adding then the ice will absorbe the odor of the food added, also the defrost of the evaperator will also add to bad ice taste
a new filter for the ice maker is maybe needed, depending on how long it has been since it was changed
if it has been changed, youcan try this whirlpool tip
put a small pie pan in the freezer and one in the fresh food section
add 1/2 inch of fresh coffee not coffee grounds to each pan
leave in for 24 hrs
dump out coffee in the sink drain
repeat the process
dump coffee in 24 hrs
odor GONE
