Question about Kenmore Elite HE4 Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Kenmore Elite dryer

My husband is trying to help our friends out fixing their dryer. He usually has no problem, but this one is troubling.
The dryer only runs when you push the button in, when you release the buttton, the dryer stops.
He replaced the board on it, there was obvious burn marks on a few resistors. Then the owner went online got some info and ordered a thermal fuse. When they tested the fuse, it was okay, so they did not replace it.

I started the test cycle to make sure it works properly and in the middle of the test a code of D80 appears and a little smoke witch is not good. Does anyone know what this code means?

Digital control washers and dryers usually have a list of common trouble codes listed in the owners manual under, "trouble codes". Unfortunately, mostly simple codes are listed. My guess would be to check the thermister, & thermal protection fuse but you can get model specific advice in the trouble shooting section at Good luck. Try this link:

Hidden appliance information

Most of us have owned appliances that have malfunctioned or stopped working all together. If you have a basic knowledge of wiring diagrams and decent mechanical skills, and would like to do you own repair instead of paying someone a fortune to fix it, keep in mind that most major appliances have a wiring diagram tucked away somewhere within the appliance - usually folded up and attached under one of the panels. Also, if you know the brand and model number / serial number, you can usually find wiring diagrams, parts lists/descriptions and exploded views on the internet. This has helped me to trouble shoot and repair many appliances of my own and of friends.

The dryer just makes a buzzing noise like it wants to start but just doesnt start. After I keep pressing the button it stops trying to start. Someone told me it's probably the belt. If so, is it an easy...

If you get a friend to help, try opening the door and with one hand push in the door switch, with the other hand, turn the drum clockwise while your friend pushes the start button. If it runs, you have a bad start winding in the motor or the centrifugal start switch is stuck in the run position. either way, you need a new motor:o(

My Kenmore Dryer Model # 96551220 does not run. Heating coil is fine.

When u say it does'nt run do u mean it doesn't spin??? if so ur belt is probably broken..about a $10.00 part an easy fix with a handy friend...if u mean it does'nt heat then it could be a thermal switch if it not the element....the switch is pretty cheap also and is located behind the panel in the back of the usually white and an easy replacement as well...

Dryer wont start on my roper dryer. Timer is working but wont start

Check for a blown thermal fuse. It's about an inch long and is located inside the rear of the dryer usually attached to or near the exhaust duct. It can be tested using a multimeter or ohmmeter. Check for continuity. A lack of continuity means a blown thermal fuse. Sorry for your trouble and I hope this helped. Best wishes.

Can't remove bolts to mount running boards

Do u or any friends have an air compressor? If u can borrow an impact gun the bolts will come right off. I've had an air compressor for years, purchased an impact driver, can't believe how easy it removes bolts I can't budge. U may be able to rent a portable compressor and impact gun. Hope this helps, good luck, and let me know how it comes out.

My dryer doesn't heat up

I had the same problem. I called the repair man and my heating elements were broken, I had them replaced and now my dryer works fine. For me getting it repaired was cheaper then buying a new one. Your repair man should give you a free estimate on the cost

Dryer no longer heats up on my Kenmore 417.94812301 laundry stacked unit

On your dryer the common problems found is either you lost some of your electrical power (check your fuse box) or you need a new heater #131475300 about $100 for the part.
