Question about Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2) Console

Disk will not read

When i put a game in the disk does not start up. Any ideas where to start? We found a small black piece of plastic on the floor. I took the unit apart and cannot find anywhere that it looks like it may have broken off of the playstation. IT is a PS2 slim.

Chances are the tab from the top of the door of your console has broken off. It is a very simple problem to fix. It is either the one at the front just behind the power/reset button or the one at the back just behind the little tab that holds your disc in place and stops it from spinning while your door is open. Open up your console... there are three small holes at the front... two are at the very front and one is on the right side and a bit smaller that is one of the ones that may be missing a tab. Look at the underside of the door... is there a tab directly above that hole if so then it is not that one, if it is not there, simply glue it back on or use something small and about have the size of the two tabs at the front to synthesize it. If it is there look at the back behind the thing that stops your disc from spinning and see if the tab on the top is missing from there and if it is do the same for if it was missing from the front only make it twice as long as the tabs in front. Hope this helped

My 360 does not read disc, everytime i place disc in ,it says open tray

I fixed this for me today. I opened the tray, and took the disk out. Just inside in the middle there is a small disk that rotates. I just rotated it a little with my finger to get it moving. Once it started spinning the disk tray closed on its own. I then put a disk in and it started reading it. I guess the piece that moves the disk got stiff and just needed some assistance. Hope this helps.

Usb input from hard drive to computer is broken

Will replacing the data-cable replace the broken-off piece?

If not, then for about $30, you can buy a new "empty" external case, and then "transplant" your current disk-space into the new case.
Take your current external drive to the computer-store, so that the new case that you buy will be the correct case for your existing disk-drive.

Of course, because you have a "small" (100GB) disk-drive, any warranty for the disk-drive probably has expired, and it would be good "preventative-maintenance" to buy a new external disk-drive, before your current disk-drive unexpectedly "quits" on you.

When i put game in comes up disc error what do we do

If the problem exists with all disks, your problem is with the disk drive itself. Wii disk drive cleaning kits retail less than US 8$ and are your best solution in this case. They include a custom sized microfiber tool used to clean the laser reading lens inside your Wii disk drive. If you have trouble with just one disk, the disk you are using may be dirty, scratched, or defective. Try cleaning your disk with water and a soft cloth (Do not use a paper towel, it will just leave paper pieces on the disk.) If the cleaning does not help, look for scratches on the top AND bottom of the disk. The slightest scratch on the disk can cause a read error. If you have a scratch you can try a disk buffer. Some video and game rental stores offer a disk buffing service for a small fee, if buffing and cleaning do not work, your disk is most likely defective. Return the game to the store you purchased it from and ask for a replacement if possible.

Mine wont read discs or anything it usually reads

jah23,
Check your laser eye to be sure nothing is covering it. Something could have come off the disk ( small piece of paper) and may be covering the eye. Wash your disk too. Hope this helps.

Will not load some games

I had the same problem with my ps2. I found a solution that might help you. take a Q-tip and dip it in rubbing alcohol or water just intil damp. gently clean the eye and the rest of the disk tray. then dry it the other end of the Q-tip. when the eye dirty with dust or a hair or a small speck of paper or plastic from a disk will slow the ps2 down when loading. hope this helps!

Can't Acsess Hard level on playstation game called (BLACK).

Scratch on disk could be blocking the console from reading that specific piece of the game. Take the disk and clean it with a lint free cloth. I have tried this but it may ruin your game.Take a little bit of water and put it on the cd. Spread the water and clean it with a tissue until dry.

Ps2 not able to read disk

Hi this is the commonist fault on all ps2 and even ps3 their is no way of repairing the laser itself the only option you have is to replace the laser unit the problem with doing this is that if you buy a new laser you will need to get it calibrated and to do this you will need oscilscope and these cost about £300 or if in us about $600 so thats the problem of buying new ones its often cheaper to buy new ps2 than go down that route.
The other option is buying second hand ps2 of an auction site but the problem with this also is that it might have same problem as yours.
What i did that made mine work for few months extra was to use ask.com and type in :Disk read error on ps2
or try this How to repair ps2 disk error or just try repairing ps2
On doing this i came across a site but i cant remember what it was called but this site showed you step by step instruction on how to adjust the laser slightly so that it played games again after following these instructions mine worked again for about three months.
It basically told you to remove the case off the ps2 then where the laser is its like a black plate but you cant see the laser remove this black case i think their was about two little black screw on the top of the black lid covering the laser it covers the disk so you cant see the disk with case removed.
Anyway remove this black lid then if you look at the back of the laser tray not at front where the game goes in but towards the back their is a white disk about the size of a coin now this site told me to first mark with marker the white disk so you know where you started from put line on the white disk then on something else but not the disk so you know where it was located before you turn it doing this lets you go back to how it was before you moved it.
After doing this if you turn the disk slightly it raises and lowers the laser lense now you need to do this a bit at a time and then but the black lid back on with screws then try a game in it you can hold the black lid ontop of the laser unit if you want but dont push to hard and dont hold it to soft else game wont spin properly.
Just turn this white disk a bit at a time then try loading a game keep doing this you can turn it either way if your lucky you might find that adjusting the laser hight might get it working again if not then the laser needs replacing but remember if it dont work then you need to turn the whit disk back to where it started from ie where you marked because if you replace the laser this white disk needs to be back where it was originally.
If you are going to do this search the net first you should find the complete instructions on doing this ok also make sure you dont shine the laser in your eyes or other peoples eyes as its dangerous and can blind you in the future so make sure the case is on the laser before its switched on.
If you cant find the site let me know and ill have a look for you ok also let me know if you need further assistance

Play station 2 limeline scratching my game disks

I do not think moving the console while playing is the problem.  It might scratch, of course, when you move while you're playing, but what when you're not and it keep scratching disks?  Problem the people who have posted here, haven't been moving when playing.  My PS2Slim is scratching my disks too.  I have put a new unscratched disk onto it, and made it load the game, and just for few minutes I turn it off and take the disk out, I see a small scratch on near the outer side of the disk.  And it is doing that constantly, on the same place, without moving the console.  The console is not on vertical position, but horizontal.

I was reading somewhere that when the disk starts to spin it vibrates, which makes sense.  If you lift your cover and check, there is a piece of small cloth like or sponge, I don't know near the top part, near where the disk lense is, it kind of like keeps the disk still.  But from time to time of being using the PS2, that small thing gets worn out it could be probably that thing that is not working as it is supposed to be, so the disk starts to vibrate more than it use to and then the disk gets scratched.  This is just an hypothesis.  I still need to find a way to replace that small piece to see if that's the problem.

My DC will read my games but it wont play them!!!

ok guys i have 4 dreamcasts the problem is people beat the crap out of em. try holding the lid partially closed with a weight on top it should read the disk and play good. the sensor that tells it there is a disk in there is probaly a little screwed up. Also get a clean cue tip and some 91% rubbing alcohol and gently clean the lens on the laser and it sould work like new. so get to the browser with the lid open all the way put a disk in and slowly close the lid at about 80 percent closed it should say reading disk put a weight on the lid to keep it where it is and try the game if it works your good. permenent solution. remove modem and the 4 screws at the bottom of the dreamcast without a disk in there pull the top off. now look at the part of the lid that hits the little black flapper (it's on the top right of the main board) now tape or glue a small amount of anthing to the part of the lid that hits the switch about 4 mm thick of paper taped to it will push the switch further in and it should recognize disks better now and all will be well in the world e-mail me for pix if you want apple225@juno.com

My psp doesnt read UMDs properly

I started to have this problem with the games that I play all the time. What I noticed is that the game starts to sink into the case. I got mine to play by first, pushing on the reading side of the disk. Later, I had to take the plastic front piece off that has the UMD label. You have to be careful because the actual UMD disk can come out after that. You also have to be careful because you don't want to crack the whit case that holds the UMD. I hope that this helps.
