One common error that many PS3 players experience at some time is the beeping error that some call the "three beeps of death". What happens with this error is the PS3 will beep three times in short succession, and then suddenly shut down. Sometimes the unit will restart and play normally after about ten minutes, while for others, it will refuse to turn on at all.
If the three beeps error has happened to you, you are likely wondering if this a serious problem, needing to be sent in for repairs, or whether it is a problem that can be fixed at home. Unfortunately, there is no easy answer for this question because there are potentially multiple causes of the three beep error. If you are lucky, you may only experience this error once or on rare occasions and you may just choose to ignore the problem and deal with the rare shut downs that may occur, as unpredictable as they are.
However, if the three beep error happens repeatedly, you have a more serious issue that is going to need some proper troubleshooting and repairs.
One of the most simple fixes for the three beeps of death problem involves resetting the PS3 hard drive. In other cases, however, the problem may be the result of dirt and dust building up inside the unit, causing it to overheat. By properly cleaning your unit both internally and externally, you may be able to resolve the problem. In the most serious cases, however, you may be facing a motherboard issue that is in need of professional repair or replacement.

For the recovery menu:

1. Turn off Playstation®3.
2. Hold the power button down; the system will turn on and turn off once again.
3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
5. You will be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then hit the PS button
6. The Recovery menu will pop up


This will get you to the Recovery menu, all you have to do is click ReBuild. And just turn your ps3 off and on again.

This is a problem with the Playstation 3 software becoming corrupt. It is very easy to fix if you follow my simple steps.

Please note, this method will erase your hard drive so any save games you had will be lost. All your online trophies will be preserved.

Step 1.

Turn your Playstation 3 off into standby mode (red light on)

Step 2.

Press and hold the power button. The Playstation 3 will beep when you first press it, then beep again 5 seconds later and then beep once more and turn off back into standby mode (red light on). You must now release the power button.

Step 3.

Press and hold the power again. The Playstation 3 will beep when you first press it, beep again 5 seconds later then there will be 2 quick beeps together. When you hear these 2 quick beeps release the power button.

Step 4.

Your Playstation 3 will now start up with a screen asking you to connect a controller via USB. Connect your controller and then press the PS button.

Step 5.

A menu will now be displayed on screen. Select option 5 "Restore PS3 System". This will then ask you to confirm that you wish to go ahead with the system restore. Accept whatever the Playstation 3 says.

The Playstation 3 will now go through the system restore process and re-install the system software back to out of the box status. You will have to set your user name, date and time and network settings again.

Once you have completed the above, the Playstation 3 will restart and spring back to life again!

The PS3 works fine but freezes in career mode of MLB 10 The Show. Is this also an over heating issue?
It doesn't sound like an overheating issue, more of either a disc read issue or firmware issue.

Please try my following tip for re-installing the firmware. If this does not fix it then try cleaning the laser lens.

Failing that, if it is an overheating problem usually it will tell you with an onscreen prompt or shut down with a flashing yellow light

Step 1.

Turn your Playstation 3 off into standby mode (red light on)

Step 2.

Press and hold the power button. The Playstation 3 will beep when you first press it, then beep again 5 seconds later and then beep once more and turn off back into standby mode (red light on). You must now release the power button.

Step 3.

Press and hold the power again. The Playstation 3 will beep when you first press it, beep again 5 seconds later then there will be 2 quick beeps together. When you hear these 2 quick beeps release the power button.

Step 4.

Your Playstation 3 will now start up with a screen asking you to connect a controller via USB. Connect your controller and then press the PS button.

Step 5.

A menu will now be displayed on screen. Select option 3 "Restore File System". This will then ask you to confirm that you wish to go ahead with the system restore. Accept whatever the Playstation 3 says

Please try the following solution to fix your PS3. Please note, option 5 will erase your hard drive so any save games you had will be lost.

The Playstation 3 will re-install the system software but should not affect your game saves.

Once you have completed the above, hopefully the Playstation 3 will restart as normal. If it does not, do the above again but choose option 4. If that still does not work then choose option 5, but this will erase your hard disk.

try turning it off then going into safe mode and restoring it to get to safe mode hold the power button on ps3 till you hear 3 beeps and it will turn off again then hold it again till u hear a double beep and thats safe mode try #2 and #4 on the safe mode screen
