Question about 2wire Wireless-G 802.11g ADSL Gateway

1 Answer

Several connection problems

With this modem I have connection issues. I purchase this modem from At&T in March. I am sure it is up to date. However, on my laptop I loose connections for about 15 secs. then it's ok. The big issue is, it's happening quite often. Also on my desktop as well which shares this modem. Help please, I can't take much more, or do you know of another modem that doesn't have this constant issue?

    1. Have you installed the phone filters that came with the modem?
    2. Do you have problems when you turn on the modem or the laptop?

    • if its the modem, its normal. as it is doing POST (power on self test)

    • if its the laptop, try moving closer to the modem. try this:go to your desktop, right-click my computer, click properties. Then click on the hardware tab, then on Device manager. Here you will see your hardware. click the plus sign for Network Adapters. double click your wireless adapter (it usually says wireless or G)

then click on advanced or properties (depends)

set the "Power" option to max.
    click OK.
You should now have greater range.
    Hope this helps

No to warner's locking the modem. 192.168.0.1 is the correct address for accessing the options within the modem. incidentally the Motorola wireless modem works better. Go on line to Netgear technical service and they will guide you through the task of setting up the system.

I have the Gateway 2wirewireless-G modem and router, how can i connect another desktop in another room to it?

To connect your computer to your wireless network sammiller001_4.gif
1. Right-click the wireless network icon in the lower right corner of your screen, and then click View Available Wireless Networks. sammiller001_5.gif
2. The Wireless Network Connection window appears and displays available networks. If you don't see your network (should be named something like 2wire), click Refresh network list in the upper left corner. Click your network, and then click Connect in the lower right corner. sammiller001_7.gif
3. Windows XP prompts you to enter a key. The key should be one of the numbers printed on the bottom of your 2wire modem/router. sammiller001_8.gif
4. Windows XP will show its progress as it connects to your network. If the Wireless Network Connection window continues to show Acquiring Network Address, you may have mistyped the encryption key-click Cancel and return to step 3. After you're connected, you can close the Wireless Network Connection window. Now you're ready to browse the internet!

Cannot get 2wire router to connect to wet610n adapters. Directv (who sent me this) cannot help. I need to know what to do to fix this issue. Keep getting error messages from 102 to 109,

Make sure wet610n adapters have the same wireless settings with your 2 wire modem and the wireless link status of the bridge shows connected. That's how wet610n communicate with wireless routers/modem. If wireless settings do not match they will talk with each other wirelessly.

I cannot get the wirelss connection of the sbg900 to work with my laptop.

make sure you have internet connection, and make sure wifi is enabled (turned on) on both the modem and the laptop, the default wpa-psk is either on the bottom or on the back of the modem, if the wifi is turned on you will be prompted to enter that wpa-psk into the password field when you try and connect to the wireless, other than that i will need more details to properly address your issue and give you a good step by step instruction to resolve the issue for you

My wireless internet connection keeps hiccuping off and on closing my online gmaes/programs. what is the issue?

Could be a wide variety of problems causing this.

It could be a malfunction within your computer. Something to do with your wireless card. Even then, it could be a software issue or hardware issue. Make sure drivers are up to date. Very hard to tell if it is a hardware issue or not, would have to swap your wireless card for another to test it out.

It can be a defective wireless router. Sometimes they just get confused and drop all connections. You can attempt to flash it to a new firmware version, but the odds are that will not help. If the modem/router is to blame, replacing it is the best course of action. One way to test this is to connect to someone else router and see if your problem persists.

It can be signal interference, which can be caused by any electronic in your area such as a cordless phone, microwave or even a radio. To fix this issue you need to gain access into your routers/modems wireless configuration. When you are in them, change the "channel" it is running on to something else.

Those suggestions cover the basics and more common reasons. Hope it helps.

I have a Belkin N1 Vision Wireless router and its performance is poor, i have checked it via the pingtest site and it constantly has a packet loss of 20% or higher and poor stats re ping and jitter tests...

PAULUS

The first question I have is have you tried connecting to router via wired and wireless and ran the tests to see if the issue is with your wireless signal.

Then next thing to look at is connecting your modem to your computer and run the same test because the problem could be with your connection in your area. Note even through your modem is working properly you still could have bandwidth issues in your area and your ISP may not tell you that there is an issue like that in your area.

The last thing to look at is how long you have had the router for. If you have had the router for serveral years it is possible that it is just time to have the unit replaced.

Let me know if you have any more problems or questions.

You need to have your DSL modem connected to a wireless router. The wireless router will then put your internet connection on the airwaves so your Acers will connect wirelessly to the router then they will be able to access the internet.

Connecting a wireless router to Tiscalli broadband connection

  1. USB modem is connecting a PC USB port with a DSL phone line: CANNOT be connected to a ROUTER LAN (ethernet NOT USB port).
  2. Wireless ROUTER is NOT a modem and it CANNOT connect the Internet (or WAN) LAN port to any "phone line"
  3. Connect the Router Internet (WAN) port to Modem (you need a LAN MODEM = a modem with a LAN/ETHERNET port)
  4. Be sure your internet is running before strting ROUTER configuration with Router Company CD

Networking

You actually have a couple of issues here. Fix these in this order. 1.) Login to router and turn off wireless (if you're not wanting to use wireless) 2.) Connect the ADSL modem CAT5 port to the WAN port of the Belkin router. 3.) Login to router and turn on NAT and make sure DHCP is enabled. 4.) On your Windows machine turn on DHCP under the network settings. This should allow your connection to be setup automatically and stop wireless access on the Belkin router. Let me know if you need more help. JC
