How do I replace the belt on my DD Featherlite Vacuum cleaner?
Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Knowing the brand name (Royal) and model number for the vacuum but I can give you a generic way of changing the belt. You 1st need to remove the bottom plate by screws, levers or clips, then you can get @ the belt, if not then you should remove the top cover and then you can get @ the belt. 1st remove the belt from the brushroll and install the new belt on the pulley side of the brushroll and then use a belt puller or a screwdriver with a bend on the end and then stretch the belt onto the motor pulley and then track the belt in a straight line so that is running in a straight line. Replace the bottom plate and the belt change should be done. Please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area.

So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

How do i change the belt on the dirt devil vacume cleaner

Hi there! Below are steps to replacing the belt on your vacuum. I have also included a link to the instruction manual which has illustrations if needed.

1. Lay cleaner flat and flip cleaner to expose nozzle base. Base should lay flat and face up. To remove nozzle guard, use Phillips screwdriver to remove the four (4) screws. Arrows show location of screws.
2. Lift nozzle guard off.
3. Slide belt off motor shaft.
4. Lift and remove brushroll. Dispose of old belt.
5. Place new belt in area of brushroll without bristles.
6. Slide belt onto motorshaft.
7. With new belt in place, pull and slide brushroll into nozzle making sure that the brushroll end caps are in the correct orientation. Rotate brushroll manually to make sure belt is properly aligned.
8. Reattach nozzle guard.
9. Secure by aligning the three (3) tabs in the base slots. Be sure to replace all four (4) screws.

Dirt Devil featherlite cyclonic belt comes off

What makes the belt come off?
1) Wrong belt. use only genuine DD belt. No generics.
2) Worn out belt. Sometimes a worn belt acts this way. Just because it looks good, does not mean it is good.
3) Belt improperly installed.
4) Brush roll not spinning freely. (replace Brush Roll
5) Brush roll is not installed properly.
6) Machine is worn out where it pivots between the body and the lower nozzle. To check (without a belt installed) see if there is a lot of play forward and backward between the nozzle and the main body. If so, once a new belt is installed and you are pushing and pulling on the handle the motor shaft comes out of alignment.
NOTE: the #6 problem is the rarest and usually is due to an extreme amount of use over years.

Let me know if this helps.

I replaced the belt on my Dirt Devil Featherlite Bagless Vacuum and the brush roller rubs and makes a very loud noise when turned on. I have gone exactly by the manual instructions and made sure the belt and end caps were on correctly, but the bristles still rub the back and it makes a very loud noise. Without the brush roller in the vacuum, it sounds and runs normal. What could the problem be?

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
The Royal Dirt Devil Featherlite Bagless Vacuum has just bushings in the ends of the brushroll and not bearings and once the bushings are bad I suggest that you replace the brushroll in the vacuum and put a new belt on the vacuum as well. There is no way to repair the bushing s in order to it to work properly. The suggested belt change is every 4 to 6 months and to store the extra belts in a Ziploc bag in the refrigerator to keep them fresh. Suggest looking at a local vac dealer. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
