We have a similar problem, but I can smell a distinct burning rubber smell too.

A loud banging noise could be the drum coming apart at the seam

  • Anonymous Sep 11, 2008

My dryer sounds like the drum is out of balance, even with nothing in it. Also, the cooling lights stay on, but the drying LED's on the control cycle on and off

I have this problem with the DLG2532W. Seam is coming apart and making a large thumping noise every time it turns.

    Defective LG "Premium" Dryer DLE2532W

i have the same problem - it's a defect in the design that everyone will have with their LG dryer. of course the seam will fail and drum separate outside of warranty and LG refuses to cover. this dryer is a pc of junk - buyer beware.

  • y2k_ready Oct 28, 2008

LG Premium Dryer DLE2532W is a pc of JUNK. who has ever heard of a DRUM separating? a motor, a switch, a belt going bad - yes. but a DRUM separating??

  • Otto McLovin Nov 10, 2008

Drum is separated at seam, out of warranty. Ordered a new one for $150. will try to fix it myself. Mine is the DLG2524 gas model. Looks like pop can steel in drum. I won't buy another.

Chances are the next problem you will have is "dryer not drying" from all the lint accumulation from the lint that blew through the drum seam. this will cause the heater control safety switch to trip. you will need to take front off to reach this switch up under the drop toward back on right side.

I have a LG Dryer, DLG2102W. It is about 2yrs old and is making rumbling and screeching noises when on. I am thinking is is a belt or roller

Hello,

The problem (noise)can be from both side or area !

However, Loud noises coming from a Whirlpool dryer are most oftencaused by loose objects inside the unit or by a broken dryer belt. The dryerbelt allows the dryer's motor to run smoothly. Continuous wear and dry conditionsmay cause the belt to dry out, eventually cracking and then snapping. This willcause a loud noise within the unit. Repair and fix the dryer belt of aWhirlpool dryer to get rid of loud noises. Instructions And Things You'll Neededto solve the problem.

Screwdriver ,Replacement dryer belt 1 Stop the Whirlpool dryer and look inside thedryer's drum for any loose objects such as coins, pens or anything else thatmay have been in a pocket of clothing. Remove the object and restart the dyerto determine if the noise has stopped.
2 Unplug the dryer from the wall outlet todisconnect all power to the unit. 3 Remove the lint trap from the lint compartment onthe top of the dryer. 4 Remove the screws that hold the top panel inplace. Pull the panel off to access the
dryer belt.
5 Tilt the dryer forward and lift the dryer drum toremove the belt. Check the dryer's belt. A belt that is worn, cracked, split orbroken will cause loud noises. 6 Slide the old belt off of the drum and pull it outto remove it. Take note on how it is positioned over the drum.
7 Install the new belt. Lean the front panel awayfrom the dryer and slip the new belt over the drum. Locate the position of theold belt and slip the new belt following the old belt's position ensuring thegrooved side of the belt faces down. Push the idler pulley towards the motor toallow you to slip and loop the belt around the motor pulley.
8 Place the top panel on the Whirlpool dryer andscrew it in place.
9 Open the dryer door and use your hand to rotatethe drum counterclockwise a few turns to ensure the belt is secured.
10 Plug the dryer into the wall unit and begin use.If the noise still exists, you'll want to call a professional repairtechnician. Thanks for using fixya.

LG dryer was making a squealing noise, then suddenly started making a loud noise like gravel was being rolled around in the drum. Could this be a broken belt?

I have a LG dlg5988w drying that just started making a banging sound. Are there rollers that need replaced?

yes the belt has a tensioner with a bearing and a roller surrounding the bearing
the bearing can be locked up which will put flat spots in the roller m,aking the banging noise
Sound horrifying at times doesn't it?

Dryer making a louder than normal noise when drying

Possibly the roller, I would have to hear it to be sure, but if it sounds like a clunking noise, it is probably a roller, if it is more of a high pitched whine, or a sound like a penny in a vaccum you probably have something stuck in your blower.

I have a DLE 7177WM LG electric dryer is sound

Your problem sounds like drum rollers have flat spots on them or in need of lubrication.
If you have a front loading machine, Unplug the dryer, remove the front of the dryer. This will expose the drum and belt, remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers.
Check your rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them replace them.
If they don't then they probably only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the rollers with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil. Reassemble the dryer, plug back in. This should solve you noise problem.
Good Luck,
I hope this helps

Dryer drum making thumping noise

My dryer just started making this noise. So I opened the back up to try to figure out what it might be, and when I opened it I saw something. It was part of the belt that drives the dryer. There are grooves vulcanized to the belt, and a small section of grooves or cogs I think is what they are called had come apart from the belt and what laying there on the floor of the dryer. But I ran it and timed the thumps in my head to get it to stop right on the "thump". Sure enough there was a small 1/2'' appx. of belt Cog missing, so the "thump" came from when the belt came around to the motor and the pulley hit a divit in the belt, "thump". So needless to say I need to replace the belt soon before it breaks completely. I figure that it looks like someone may benefit from knowing what the noise is. Now its off to find the proper belt and look up how to change those things...Good luck to those reading this.
