Question about Zenith B13A02D 13" TV

Will not power on

The above TV worked fine until a lightning storm. The house is equipped with capacitors in the panel for absorption and no other issues developed in the house.
The AC runs up through the cord to the board and the fuse is good. There are no problem spots ( burns) on the board. The on/off micro switch operates well.
The tube looks fine so I'm guessing that a small problem ( open circuit) exists in the power supply.
I have an electronics background but without the skematic I'm clueless.

Any suggestions?
Thanks.

The HOT Transistor you speak of. What number is it on the board or what are the values or color or size?

    Thanks.

Hello,
This could be possibly due to a power surge..So i expect a fuse burn or blown IC on the board..Make a step by step inspection of the circuits on the board you can easily make out the defective IC or resistor..Thank you!!!...

Regards!!...

Check that transistor if not short Q402 it is better you
take it from the board test it with the use of multitester in supply section
look for the STR IC it has 9 pins take it change it with identical rating, that
IC is power surge protector ,i have a service tips of Zenith troubles, below and
    a downloadable manual...

Dead Unit has no life at all. We have had several of these
all having no power / no click from the ON/OFF relay or the Degausing Relay

    Using STR53041 Regulator Always replace: CX3413 = 22mf 63V, CX3416
    = 100mf, 25V, RX3404 180k (use 1/2W). Also check:
    RX3407 = 47 ohm,1W, Rx3408 22 ohm, 1/2W QX3401
121-1348 (use ECG184 or one of many other transistors with similar spec's
listed in the ECG guide under TO-220 and TO-220J case styles 4 only (A 1Amp
rating is required). If that doesn't do it replace ICX3431 - STR53041.

After a lightning storm, my TV will not turn on. Is there a fuse or something on the in coming power that may have blown causing it not to turn on?

Any TV subjected to a power surge will have problems. If you can remove the back cover, do so. Locate the glass fuse. In the best situations the fuse is clear and opened, and replacement will repair your TV. In worst cases the fuse may be blackened, and you will see that many components are burned and shattered. If this latter is true, only replacing the TV is your best bet. In many cases electronics may be connected to surge protectors, but lightning will over ride these devices and cause damage. I have seen this happen many times. Thanks for asking and show all hands of support!

Got a 47 inch flat screen sanyo. tv will power on get a picture for about 10 sec and then turn off. transformer outside of house was struck by lightning

Sound like you had a power surge that has taken out the invertoer power supply capacitors...these are electrolytic capacitors that will be taken out by surges(it's a veryu common problem)..you can take the cover off the back and look for the power supply board(it will be the one with the ac line cord going to it...look at the cylindrical components on the board to see if they look bloated of have some fluid leaking out of them..this would indicate a bad capacitor...if you don't want to take the unit apart you can take to a shop and have them look at it...note: If you own your home and you have homeowners insurance..it should cover the tv if you had a close lightning strike...just a suggestion

The TV was on when I lost power to the house during a lightning storm. When the power came back on, the TV would attempt to turn on, the light would flash, but it would not stay on. Any ideas? Its a $50...

By what you are stating it could be that the power supply board could have been burned on your tv because of the black out, plus if your tv was still on when the power came back on the suddent bust of power could have coused the power supply board to burn out among other parts on your tv.

Sanyo DSs31820 dead after lightning storm. Is there a master reset?

A lightning storm will destroy a TV in many cases. I have repaired very few, with this problem. I would certainly find a new TV, if this is the case for sure. Thanks for asking!

My tv went dead during a lightning storm. I heard

The sound could have come from one of your power capacitors. You could tell if one of them is no longer operational by looking at them; they will be burned, or blistered, or will be bulging. If this is a CRT type of TV ensure that you only look inside if you are fully aware of how to deal with the lethal voltages that are stored on the inside of the unit.

Lightning

Power hits are very difficult to recover from primarily because odd things can happen. Usually the standby transformer or power supply takes the largest hit. With no symptoms to go on, it is difficult to provide a diagnosis remotely. If you have any electronics experience, start by looking for the standby 5V inside the set. If that does not exist, start with getting that portion to work. After that, hopefully the set will attempt to start and we can continue from there.

Lightning Strike?

Assuming this line is across the screen horizontally (side to side), this means the vertical deflection circuitry is dead. In late model sets, there is a Integrated circuit package which drives the vertical yoke coils. Possible defects: the I.C. itself, bad solder connections where it solders to the board, missing voltage source to this I.C. (often around +24 volts), or a bad electrolytic capacitor in the associated circuitry. This latter often results in a non-linear picture, or less than full deflection condition, rather than a thin line only. It is possible lightning caused this problem, (I've seen some rather illogical damage from lightning ) perhaps it produced enough of a surge to pop the I.C. or a fusible resistor in that voltage source noted above.
