Question about Hitachi 46F510 46" Projection HDTV

Hitachi 46510 blue screen-Shuts down

I have a Hitachi 46F510. When I turn the set on, the screen is blue and you can faintly see a picture, then it shuts itself off anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute after.

I opened it up and turned it on and the green gun is not lit but the blue and red ones are.

I have read the posts on here and haven't quite found the exact problem i am having.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Lee

I pushed up a bit on the circuit board and turned it on and the green gun lit up. The only problem is that the set shuts off within 5 seconds now

Good Day, 6slimshandy9;

Try and look this;

Shuts down at turn on, LEDs D955 & D956 come on & turn off asap, the rest of the LEDs on power supply will go off slowly.
Cause: Found QEA6 (2315381) and QEA7(2315391) shorted in Blue CRT PWB.

I hope this was helpful, big IRISH. Or try unplugging the blue crt socket and if it turns off. If it stays on suspect bad CRT.

What causes my picture to go pink all of the sudden ?

Examine the screen with set on and color set to zero--stand back and look= is screen pink to red color?

If so it may be a common issue on this Hitachi.

Usually it is an adjustment inside the set of the red screen control needing to be turned just slightly down---these are known for the red control "drifting" just slightly from time to time--answer is based on model number indicated here.

I have Hitachi 46F510 projection tv. Problem is that the picture is getting very blury. Cant find any thing in manual for bulb replacement. Hate to throw out the tv. ...

projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both.

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

The picture is a red color

A lot of these sets develop a problem like this--the set uses a small plastic block with 6 controls--three are focus and three are SCREENS--

most likely you just need to get at and turn the red screen control down just a little.

I can tell you how to do this from the front of the set--takes only a few minutes.

Television will not magic focus and picture has a lot of red distortion

Projection TV sets have two very common problems listed below.

Problem #1) Convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

My hitachi 46f510 has a blury picture. i cant even read the words on the menu..

Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

2c07611.pngSolution #1

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

2c07611.pngSolution #2

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.
