Question about Bestec (ATX-250-12E) 250-Watt Power Supply
Can I obtain a schematic diagram for the ATX-250-12E?
You probably wont find the schematic from the manufacturers website, however there are plenty of electronics engineers and hobbyist whom inverse engineer these power supplies and either charge for the schematic or post it free for download. For instance here is the schematic I found to a similar one: http://www.smpspowersupply.com/ATX_power_supply_schematic.pdf. If you can understand one ATX you pretty much understand them all! There are several reasons for wanting the schematic to a power supply other than just to simply repair it; For instance to mod it to take a cigarette lighter in a car as input voltage instead of plugging into a power outlet. The parts and circuits making up most ATX power supplies with the exception of the main transformer are quite cheap and can be purchased at your local Radioshack or at sites like mouser.com. I sometimes get them out of broken radios.

Once upon a time . . .
I actually repaired PC supplies but only for some oddball PCs whose makers were too stupid to buy 'off-the-shelf' supplies from others.
There is a good possibility that replacement parts to repair one of these will cost more than a new replacement supply. You just cannot compete with people who earn a couple of dollars a day assembling them.
They aren't tough to repair if you have some technical skills but it just isn't worth it.
I'm pasting part of a post below I just did for someone else who wanted to know if the board could be damaged from a failing supply-
"Since there have been some changes in available outputs and connectors even on ATX supplies, make sure you compare pictures of the supply to your own but in any case, I would recommend using a replacment rated at 350W as this will run more conservatively and not be as stressed as the 250 you now have. It won't cost a lot more and will not consume any more power but the critical components will run cooler.
Not as a recommendation, just a current example on eBay:
The last couple I bought were $5 each with $7 shipping charge from a US source."
