Question about LG LFD790 System

Open Question

I bought a LG LF0790 surround sound system and I never got a book of how to get the sound to the tv. It works find with the DVD player but when I have it just on the tv no sound comes from the surround sound. On top it say setup but I have no idea of how to set it up. I know it has to be on auxillary as it was working and a guy came in today to work on my TV and now the surround sound does't work. I have all the right cord etc. I just have to know how to get it to recognize the TV. Also I am a senior citizen so don't be to technical. Do you have directions that I can get so if this happens again I will be able to fix it. Thanks

SOURCE: the surround sound only plays on dvd not tv

most tv shows will only be broadcast in 2.0 not 5.1 or higher. if you have a converter box, that may also be the problem.

SOURCE: I have a LG LHB335 Blu-Ray home theater system,

LG documentation states:

When you use SIMPLINK function, you have to

connect to the OPTICAL IN 1 jack to enjoy TV
sound to your speaker system.

Basically you need to have the Audio go from TV to receiver and setup receiver to that Input to output surround sound to all speakers.

If you have a cable box or satellite receiver, hook that output into the receivers input and that should work.

My setup is DirectTv HDMI output goes into the LG Home Theater HDMI Input 1, and LG goes HDMI output into the TV HDMI input 1.
so to watch DirectTV, I switch LG Home theater to HDMI Input 1. and TV is on HDMI input 1 (to view LG HDMI output from DriectTV, Blu-Ray, Vudu, etc.)

But have you tried the manual?

Register and download the manual for free at retrevo.com

Any external source will require a digital multichannel signal IN to the LG for surround.

Your LG tv should have an optical output socket,if your surround system has one as well,(input) then connect an optical lead from the tv to the system, then select either input 1 or opti 1(depending on your system) you will then get the sound from whatever you are watching on the tv

How do i get my ps3 to run through my lg surround sound

Connect your yellow and red lead from the PS3 to the surround system, connect them to aux input. (the white lead is not needed). Then in the sound settings on the PS3, go to audio multi-output and change it to on. On your remote for the sound system press the input button until aux appears on the front of your LG HT303SU, and thats it, happy gaming.

LG HT 503PH Hi-Fi Surround Sound only come with one black lead that fits into the TV but nowhere to fit into the DVD system

You need to get an optical cable (not supplied with the system of course!). Will cost about £20. That will fit from the sound system to the TV to give you 5.1 surround (else you're stuck with stereo) and THEN you need HDMI from your DVD to the TV... presuming that's the way you're going. Else it's whatever you output from DVD to the TV and then the TV sees you have optical out and pushes the sound to the 5.1 system.

Home theater system connections

Hi
I have the same tv but my dvd surround is a toshiba, that shouldn't matter though. When I watch a dvd I go to component 2 which is where I have my dvd connected on the input of the tv when I watch tv and want the surround on I go to component 1 which is the tv input then on my dvd player I go to auxillary and I can watch tv in surround. I don't know the LG home theatre system but you should be able to select your inputs like between dvd, tuner, aux. Flip between them and you should get sound. hope this helps.
