MONITOR HD2200. I TURN IT ON AND THE SCREEN GOES WHITE THEN A FEW VERTICAL COLOR LINES APPEARS AND AFTER A FEW SECONDS IT GOES BLACK.

Hello,

IF YOU HAVE A SOLID BLACK LINE RUNNING VERTICALLY THEN YOU HAVE A FAULTY MATRIX INVERTER. IF CENTRAL THE MAIN VERTICAL INVERTER NEEDS CHANGED. LEFT = LEFT VERTICAL INVERTER RIGHT=RIGHT.........

ANOTHER WAY TO GET THIS FAULT IS WORN OR DAMAGED RIBBON/PLASTIC GOING FROM THE SCREEN MATRIX TO THE INVERTER

Hope this will help out in solving the problem....

Is there a special driver for hd2201 or is the 'generic pnp monitor' driver the best/only one?

If your monitor is a Gateway FHX2201Q, then your driver is at:
http://www.support.gateway.com/product/default.aspx?tab=1&modelId=3261

If your LCD monitor is an HD2200 series LCD monitor, then "generic PNP monitor" is it.
You can confirm by spending some time at the Gateway support site:

Installed wed cam and monitor shut down with a promt saying "frequency out of range". Changed resolution settings still have a problem with monitor and this promt. Changed to another monitor and everything...

Connect the monitor that works.

In the "Advanced" settings for the video-card,
set the "refresh-rate" to 60 Hertz.

Connect the other monitor -- it _very-likely_ will support a 60 Hertz refresh-rate.

Same problem 2 seconds on, then turns black

The problem with the monitor is the power inverter board. I took my monitor apart and tested all the power outputs. The ones going to the main board where ok but the ones going to the backlight where different. I changed the three capacitors on the power board that where located between the two heat sinks I think it was the 1000uf and the two 470uf. They looked ok but when i tested them they where off. Next on the opposite side of the board with all the little componites there are a few dry joins that you have to resolder. If you cant find then you can just resolder the whole back board it should only take 30min. If you have no idea what i am talking about i would not sugest taking the monitor apart.

Gateway HD2200 Won't stay on

Sounds like the back light is out. You can always take the monitor apart and reseat the lcd cable. Could be that the cable is not seated properly enough and that can cause this kind of problem.

At least trying this would verify that the lcd backlight is defective.
