Question about D-Link DI 514 Wireless Router (DI-514)

Have to keep depowering, repowering router

SAndrew,
I have to keep removing power to my D Link DI 524 router, waiting a few minutes, then repowering, in order to re-establish internet connectivity. Once connected, things are ok for sometimes a day, but then the next day, or after some period of non use, the same procedure needs to be repeated. Very frustrating. No interference nearby. Almost seems like it loses the IP address, or maybe stops talking to the cable modem. All diagnostic lights on router and modem idicate all is well, but all isn't well.
Any ideas?

John

I tried all those things, and each one worked, but then problem would reoccur. Then.......for whatever reason, problem is no longer happening. I suspect that the service provider did something at their end, but have not proof.

The best thing to do here is to update the firmware of the router to resolve this problem, so you don;t need to always power cycle the router.........

Reset password

There must be a small reset button on your router. Hold it down for 30 seconds. Release it. wait for one minute. Now unplug the power and plug it back in. Wait for 1 minute.
Once you reset the router, it will come back to factory default settings.
You will need to reconfigure the router form the start according to your Internet service provider.

D-Link DI-524 is not communicating with modem

Checklist:
* Is DHCP configured correctly?
* Connect your server and laptop to a switch (not directly with the cable)
* Can they ping each other?
* Check that the firewall is configured (or switched off if you have another FW in place)
* Default gateway should be your router, not the computers (until you have configured RRAS for example)

Configuring D-Link DI-524 router with airtel beetel 110bx1

Make sure you can go online directly to the airtel broadband. If internet works fine, connect the D-Link router to the Beetle. That should be going to the Internet port or WAN port of the D-link. Then your PC to port 1. Try to power cycle both devices now. Unplug the power to the router first then to the modem. Wait for 30 seconds. Power on modem first, wait for the lights to go solid, then power on the router. Check if the internet works fine hardwired. If it is, wireless should work as well. Just connect to the signal coming from the D-link.

Factory settings

The following is for the DI-514, DI-524, DI-604, DI-614+, DI-624, DI-624S, DI-754, DI-764, DI-774, and DI-784 routers. To perform a reset, please follow steps below: Step 1 With the unit on, place a paper clip into the hole on the back on the unit labeled Reset. Step 2 Hold paper clip down for 10 seconds and release. Note: Do not repower unit during this procedure. Step 3 The unit will reboot on its own. Once the WLAN light stops blinking, the unit is reset. Resetting the router does not reset the firmware to an earlier version. It will change all settings back to factory defaults. If you have the European version of this router, this procedure may not work. Please consult the D-Link office near you. D-Link USA does not support the European version.
