It depends how much stuff you have on it, but if you have over 100 GB of stuff I recommend you get an external hard drive that you can just connect to your computer and copy all the data that you need. This should be standard practice anyways because hard drives always die at some point and you don't want to lose all your data. has good prices. Regarding the start up screen. If you click on normal does it go to normal? I can't say for sure what is wrong with your computer but it might be that some of your hardware is incompatible with something else.

Good luck backing up your data at least.

Service host:local system(16) using high cpu

Go in to safe mode with networking and see if you get the same issue.
Make sure the laptop is turned off - not in sleep or hibernate.
OK, now start the computer and tap the F8 key till you see a black and white screen that has the Option: Safe mode with networking. Windows will now start in a diagnostic mode.. A warning screen will tell you that you're in safe mode. Click it closed. Try the internet now and see if the CPU repeats your issue. If the issue is now gone, then you have a hack or infection - most likely. Reply back to me and I can help further.. If this has helped anybody - please toss me a bone - vote

Out of range no display

Try pressing F8 when starting the PC, but BEFORE Windows starts loading. In the menu, select Safe Mode. Windows now startd with a very low resolution. You can right0click your desktop, select properties, then the Settings tab, and drag the reslution slider all the way to the left in Windows XP, or for Vista and 7, rightclick the desktop, sleect the lowest option, go to screen settings, and drag the slider all the way to the left.

After that, click OK, then restart your PC. Now you can try to increase the resolution step by step, and if it goes wrong start in safe mode and set it back a step. That way you will achieve the highest possible resolutioon (and better image quality)

I hope this helps,

I have a eee pc 900hd and I keep getting the safe mode option

if a blue screen pops up with white writing theres something seriously wrong with your laptop a blue screen on a computer is the worst possible thing that could happen apart from the thing actually exploding and can be caused by a wide range of things, my suggestion would be to reinstall windows as it will basically give you brand new computer with no errors

Can't boot windows. Screen keeps returning to the f8 safe-mode page. Ran hardware test, all ok

It seems to me that you have two ways to go. Either you let it install in safe mode and try to see what is wrong. The most usual problem is in the synchronization of the CPU and other dependent sections of the computer. The other way and the one I would do to save time, I would re-install the windows system disk. Ninety nine out of every hundred times, whatever was wrong will be fixed, because the re-installing system will check it and re-install it. Thank you very much. CONSTANTIN (arzconst)

Acer aspire one not booting

your laptop has been turned off without shutting down. all your laptops registries are probably messed up. the easiest way to do is to reformat your computer or restore it to factory settings. unless you have some important files that you cant afford to lose.

Unknown mode

Check the instructions for the default resolution for your monitor. Start your computer in the safe mode. In the safe mode, the resolution should come up at the minimum. Now go in to the screen properties and set the resolution recomended for your monitor.

When you start the computer normaly, it should now come up in the last setting that you put it in to while you were in the safe mode.
