I have a kenmore washer 90 series 6 years old. the spin cycle reacts slowly and the clothes are soaked. i have checked the coupler and it
appears fine also the unit agitates ok. i can stop the spinning just by
holding the basket gently. have unit dismantled and can't seem to
see any obivious wear or damaged parts. any helpful hints i am disabled
and in desparate need.

You need a repairperson. It is probably a belt or a switch problem.
