Question about Cnet CWR-854 Router

Flyingverylo i'm at the xp computer and gone thru to local area connections. i only have "inernet protocol (tcp/ip). clicked on properties and is this where i click "use the following ip address" and enter the numbers there. wasn't for sure since before i went to tcp/ipv4

That is correct, TCP/IP on XP is same with TCP/IP v4 on vista

HOW TO CHANGE IP ADDRESS


To change your network IP address in Windows XP, Vista, or 7:
1. Press the Windows Key and R
2. Type command and press Enter. This loads your DOS prompt
3. Type ipconfig /release then press Enter. This disables your internet connection
4. Go to your desktop, and right-click on something called Network Place or My Network Places (If you're using Windows Vista or 7, look for the Network and Sharing Center through Control Panel)
5. Click Properties. You should now see something called Local Area Connection or something similar
6. Right-click on your connection (titled Local Area Connection if you're using an ethernet cable or Wireless Network Connection if you're on WiFi) and click Properties
7. Under the General tab, double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
8. A new window appears. On its own General tab, click the box beside Use the following IP address
9. Type in ones until you fill the box up (it should read 111.111.111.111)
10. Press Tab. You'll notice the Subnet Mask section automatically fill sup with numbers

12. Click OK to bring you back to the "Local Area Connection" screen
13. Right-click Local Area Connection and Click on Properties again
14. Again, under the General tab, double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
15. Select Obtain an IP address automatically
16. Click OK

18. Go back to your DOS prompt, type "ipconfig /renew" and press Enter. This restores your internet connection.
By now, the network should've assigned a new IP address to your computer automatically.

Cant connect to my wireless router and the 192.168.01 url entered doesnt help none


Windows XP
  1. Verify Ethernet adapter in device manger.
    1. Click Start > Search > Type in ncpa.cpl and press Enter.
    2. Click System>Hardware > Device Manager
    3. Click Network Adapters
    4. Verify adapter present, enabled, and no error messages.
    5. If error reported refer to OEM regarding error receiving

    1. Click on Start > Run > Type in ncpa.cpl and click OK.
  3. Double-click on the Local Area Connection icon.
  4. Click the Support tab.
    1. Ensure that Address Type: says "Assigned by DHCP."
    2. Ensure that the IP address is valid.
    3. If both are correct, click the Repair button and then skip to Step 9.
  5. If it does not say "Assigned by DHCP" click the General tab and then click Properties.
  6. Select "Internet Protocol TCP/IP" and then click on the Properties button.
  7. Ensure that the radio buttons are marked as "Obtain an IP Address automatically" and "Obtain a DNS Server address automatically" and click OK.
  8. Click OK again to close out of the Local Area Connection properties.

I have WG11v3, adapter and have all lights ready except. It tells me about the ip address is needed. How can I put that in. I provider is verizon and they tell me I will have to get that answer from...


Click on Start and then Control Panel. Select Network Connections. Right click on the local network adaptor you are setting the IP address for. Select properties. If you do not see Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) click the install select protocol and add then Internet Protocol TCP/IP and ok. Click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and properties. If you do not know the IP Address select obtain IP address automatically and OK. Click OK to close and save Local Area Network Properties. See if this works otherwise you will need to find the IP Address for your modem.

Just install XP PRO sp3 on P4C800 board and current version of 3Com 3C940 onboard LAN. Installation went fine but LAN can not acquired network address and get no or limited connection.Therefore internet...


When your using Internet connection via LAN you need to configure the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties at the Network Connection Wizard. To configure the Network Connection just follow this steps:
1. Double click the My Computer from your desktop/screen.
2. At the left side of the My Computer menu click the My Network Places then click View Network Connections in the left side of that window also.
3. Double click the Local Area Connection and click Properties.
4. When the Local Area Connection Properties was appear select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) then click Properties.
5. The Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties are also apear, then click Use the following IP address and fill-up the following: IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, Preferred DNS Server and Alternate DNS Server.
6. After all you fill-up click OK Button.
Note: Make sure that the IP Address you fill-up in your network connection are not the same with the other computer to avoid conflict. Just copy the configuration on the computer like: Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, Preferred DNS Server and Alternate DNS Server. Only the IP Address are unique to the other computer. Example; 192.168.0.5 that is the IP Address of last computer are connected in the network. The IP Address you able to use is 192.168.0.6, only the last digit of the IP Address your going to change.

Dial up connection ends in error code 720, can't connect to the internet. Using a back-up pc that is terribly slow. would like to fix pc.


Error 720 - the connection attempt failed because your computer and the remote computer could not agree on PPP control protocol.

To resolve this issue, uninstall the TCP/IP protocol, remove the second WAN Miniport IP device, and then reinstall the TCP/IP protocol. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Uninstall the TCP/IP protocol. To do so:
    1. In Control Panel, double-click Network and Dial-up Connections, right-click Local Area Connection, and then click Properties.
    2. Under Components checked are used by this connection, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click Uninstall.
    3. Follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall TCP/IP.
    4. Restart the computer when prompted, but click No if you are prompted to allow Windows to enable a protocol.
  2. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
  4. On the View menu, click Show hidden devices.
  5. Under Network adapters, there should be no WAN Miniport IP devices. If a WAN Miniport IP device is listed, continue to the following step. If no WAN Miniport IP device is listed, go directly to step 16.
  6. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.

  5. Quit Registry Editor.
  6. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
  7. Click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
  8. On the View menu, click Show hidden devices.
  9. Under Network adapters, right-click WAN Miniport (IP) and then click Uninstall. Click OK to confirm that you want to remove this device.
  10. Reinstall the TCP/IP protocol. To do so:
    1. In Control Panel, double-click Network and Dial-up Connections, right-click Local Area Connection, and then click Properties.
    2. Click Install.
    3. In the Select Network Component Type dialog box, click Protocol, and then click Add.
    4. Under Network Protocol, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click OK.
    5. When the protocol is installed, click Close.
  11. Reset the modem by turning the power off and then on, or for an internal modem, restart the computer.
  12. Test your Internet connectivity.

The following instructions assume you are running Windows XP with the default interface. If you are using the
Classic interface (where the icons and menus look like previous Windows versions), please follow the
instructions for Windows 2000.
1. Click the Start button and then the Control Panel icon. Click the Network and Internet Connections icon.
Then click the Network Connections icon.

No default gateway


You most likley have your Local Area Connection TCP/IP settings incorrect.
In windows XP go to > Control Panel > Network Connections > RIGHT CLICK on Local Area Connection > Properties > Click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) > Then properties > Make sure that "Obtain an IP address Automaticly" and "Obtain DNS server automatticly" are checked. Once you make the change, Reboot and you should be good to go.

Hi, Could be done. On the Dell XP - 1. Activate your Internet Connection Sharing. Go to Control Panel, Click on Network Connections, right click on your Local Area Connection, Properties, Advanced tab, check Allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection. In Home networking connection, choose "Local Area Connection", OK; 2. Back to General settings, click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), click on Properties, tick Use the following IP address: IP address 192.168.0.1, Subnet mask 255.255.255.0, Default gateway 192.168.0.1, if you know ITT DNS use them otherwise tick "Obtain DNS server address automatically." You have to connect the DellXP with the DellVista using a crossover networking cable. On the Dell Vista- 1. In your Network Connections, right click on your Local Area Connection, Properties, click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), click on Properties, tick Use the following IP address: IP address 192.168.0.2, Subnet mask 255.255.255.0, Default gateway 192.168.0.1, if you know ITT DNS use them otherwise tick "Obtain DNS server address automatically." The above method will also work with peer to peer wireless networking. It might also facilitate connection if you enable auto-detect proxy settings in your browser. There are other methods.
