Battery charging problem

I have a PW 9110-6000 VA unit with 2 additional battery modules, (total 100 batteries - 35 Ah) The battery charging circuitry appears not to be working as the UPS constantly discharges the battery packs even with normal input of 230v. the discharge rate is approx. 600mA with no load on the UPS output. I have temporarily provided an external charging system arranged to provide 14.1 v across each battery which has solved the discharge problem and the UPS works perfectly. However, I am concerned regarding the standing voltage of ~285v being applied to the UPS across the battery packs. If possible, could you please provide some basic information regarding the charging circuitry to enable me set-up / repair, or failing that, confirm the "safe" battery voltage under charging conditions. Well, the charging voltage is the right one, you may have a problem with charger board, did you check that? tbe 2 big capacitators, maybe you will need to change them, there could be a couple of things, and to be honest i don´t have the circuits sheets, cause i stopped working with powerware.

Your probably going to need to take to a dealer for this , I don't how much you know about modern automotive charging systems . Plus it would help to have a professional scan tool ! The charging system on you vehicle is computer controlled ! The engine control module (ECM) controls the generator through the generator L-terminal control circuit. The signal is a 5-volt pulse width modulation (PWM) signal of 128 Hz with a duty cycle of 0-100 percent. Normal duty cycle is between 5-95 percent. Between 0-5 percent and 95-100 percent are for diagnostic purposes. The following table shows the commanded duty cycle and output voltage of the generator:
The BATTERY SAVER ACTIVE message will display on the driver information center (DIC) when the vehicle enters a load shed 2 event. Refer to for load shed 2 setting criteria.
The electrical power management (EPM) system is designed to monitor and control the charging system and send diagnostic messages to alert the driver of possible problems with the battery and generator. This EPM system primarily utilizes existing on-board computer capability to maximize the effectiveness of the generator, to manage the load, improve battery state-of-charge (SOC) and life, and minimize the system's impact on fuel economy. The EPM system performs 3 functions:

Acer Aspire 4830T battery issue - Laptop shutting down abruptly though the battery shows 90% charge available.

Did you follow the initial charging instructions that came with the battery from the manufacturer? Does the battery fit properly and is not loose or gets loose during use/moving around? Are the cooling fans under the unit all clean, clear, unobstructed and working properly? Is the battery of the same type as the original? You can't always replace a Cadmium with NImh etc, the charger may not be compatible and give you erroneous indications and poor charging performance and may damage the battery.

Can I put higher Ah batteries in my Shoprider Streamer?

Absolutely. Let me explain what "Ah" means. "Ah" stands for Amp Hours. A 32ah battery will run a 1 amp motor for 32 hours...or a 32 amp motor for one hour...a 16 amp motor for two hours etc.. As long as the battery voltage is the same it's absolutely fine. As long as your chargers are the correct voltage, they'll be fine as well. So basically, the higher the "Ah", the longer the battery will last. This is why higher "Ah" batteries are more expensive. Hope this helps : )

Can you add 2-12 v 18 ah batteries in parallel to back up 2-12 volts 32 ah batteries?

hi, you mustn't do that ,,, you can get excessive current flow and that will damage the battery in question

There is a hidden screw just above the charge jack that holds the top cover in place. Remove the plastic plug that hides the screw, unscrew the screw, and pry off the cover. My unit would not charge anymore. I think the charging electronics are poorly designed. I extracted the battery and electronics leaving only the motor, then wired the motor directly up to a 5 volt battery pack. It now works great!

How do you check the battery status?

Check battery voltage using Volt meter=> it should be about 12.6 to 13.8 vdc.
Pull the battery out... checking the deforming at the case ..such as "swelling"... if yes .. replace the battery.
Replacement battery is about 10-20 dollars on e-bay (watch for shipping charge and size. and terminal connection sizes )
The average life of battery on UPS is about 5-7-10 years wi)th UPS plugged in (Charging
One I had my local Autozone checked my 12 VDC -8 AH ... ask them to set CCA at about 100 AMP...
for 12 VDC -14 AH ask them to set CCA about 200 AMP.
For a 12 VDC -75 AH (group 24) they set the load on their tester at about 700-900 CCA.
You can also buy a manual battery load test at Harror freigt tool for about $20 US dollars (On sale)

The charging system consists of:
† Generator
† Decoupler Pulley (If equipped)
† Electronic Voltage Regulator (EVR) circuitry
within the Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
† Ignition switch (refer to the Ignition System section
for information)
† Battery (refer to the Battery section for information)
† Battery temperature sensor
† Voltmeter (refer to the Instrument Cluster section
for information)
† Wiring harness and connections (refer to the
Wiring section for information)
† Accessory drive belt (refer to the Cooling section

The charging system is turned on and off with the
ignition switch. The system is on when the engine is
running and the ASD relay is energized. When the
ASD relay is on, voltage is supplied to the ASD relay
sense circuit at the PCM. This voltage is connected
through the PCM and supplied to one of the generator
field terminals (Gen. Source +) at the back of the
The generator is driven by the engine through a
serpentine belt and pulley or decoupler pulley
The amount of DC current produced by the generator
is controlled by the EVR (field control) circuitry
contained within the PCM. This circuitry is connected
in series with the second rotor field terminal
and ground.
A battery temperature sensor is used to sense battery
temperature. This temperature data, along with
data from monitored line voltage, is used by the PCM
to vary the battery charging rate. This is done by
cycling the ground path to control the strength of the
rotor magnetic field. The PCM then compensates and
regulates generator current output accordingly to
maintain system voltage at the targeted system voltage
based on battery temperature.
All vehicles are equipped with On-Board Diagnostics
(OBD). All OBD-sensed systems, including EVR
(field control) circuitry, are monitored by the PCM.
Each monitored circuit is assigned a Diagnostic Trouble
Code (DTC). The PCM will store a DTC in electronic
memory for certain failures it detects. Refer to
On-Board Diagnostics in the Electronic Control Modules(
MODULE - DESCRIPTION) section for more DTC
The Check Gauges Lamp (if equipped) monitors:
charging system voltage, engine coolant temperature
and engine oil pressure. If an extreme condition
is indicated, the lamp will be illuminated. This is
done as reminder to check the three gauges. The signal
to activate the lamp is sent via the PCI bus circuits.
The lamp is located on the instrument panel.

The Electronic Voltage Regulator (EVR) is not a
separate component. It is actually a voltage regulating
circuit located within the Powertrain Control
Module (PCM). The EVR is not serviced separately. If
replacement is necessary, the PCM must be replaced.
The amount of DC current produced by the generator
is controlled by EVR circuitry contained within
the PCM. This circuitry is connected in series with
the generators second rotor field terminal and its

control the strength of the rotor magnetic field. The
EVR circuitry monitors system line voltage (B+) and
battery temperature or inlet air temperature sensor
(refer to Battery Temperature Sensor or Inlet Air
Temperature Sensor for more information). It then
determines a target charging voltage. If sensed battery
voltage is 325 mv or lower than the target voltage,
the PCM grounds the field winding until sensed
battery volage is 325 mv above target voltage. A circuit
in the PCM cycles the ground side of the generator
field up to 250 times per second (250Hz), but
has the capability to ground the field control wire
100% of the time (full field) to achieve the target
voltage. If the charging rate cannot be monitored
(limp-in), a duty cycle of 25% is used by the PCM in
order to have some generator output. Also refer to
Charging System Operation for additional information.
The electronic voltage regulator is not a serviced
separately. If replacement is necessary, the PCM
must be replaced.
