Maytag Neptune MDE5500AY Heats intermittently

My dryer seems to be heating intermittently. The lint trap and ducting are completly clear with no obstructions. During a sensor dry it stuck at 20 minutes and stayed there running with no heat. I removed the sensor and cleaned it up and put it back in and the dryer worked for that load, but failed for the next. I repeated and it worked.

We had a power outage also from the hurricane Gustav. Our dryer runs but it is not heating. It did work for about 4 loads after the power was restored but then quit heating! Help!

We had a technician come out to look at the dryer and it was a burned up wire leading to the timer. He replaced the timer....ouch....and all is good. We decided if anything else goes wrong with this washer and dryer...we are buying a new set!

The herating element might be going bad. disconnect power, remove and inspect the heating element. look to see if its getting thin at any point. as it heats it could be seperatring and only give heat when it cools completely

My dryer takes forever to dary and the lint and the clothes feel damp. I can only dry 1/2 a load at a time. Whart's wrong?

Frequently there's an obstruction in the vent duct from the dryer to the outside of the house. For the dryer to heat properly, the duct must be clean and clear of lint or any other substance. Also, make sure the duct is not kinked. Also, your dryer has some internal ductwork. If it gets clogged, your dryer can't dry properly. In most dryers, to get to the internal ductwork to clear the clog, you have to substantially disassemble the dryer. A quick way to check for internal clogs is to remove the lint filter and use a flashlight to inspect the inside of the duct. If it looks clogged and you can't clear it using your vacuum.

Dryer heats up but close remain wet

Hi,

If your dryer is not drying like it once did or if you just have nottaken the time to give yourself a clean dryer in a long time then youneed to do that. At least once a year the dryer cleaning should takeplace. Lint build up in the dryer duct is one of the main causesfor your dryer to fail.

How do you open the lint trap to clean it out? Dirt has fallen down inside the dryer.

The panel must be removed
Try a swifter cloth on a steel rod to obtain catching it
Swifters really work well on lint that is stuck inside these vent tubes or duct work

need to check your vent duct. if clogged it won't let the air flow through the dryer needed to dry your clothes.

Dryer heats randomly..Igniter is working.

Generally operation when cold that worsens with use indicates a component that is failing when hot. Start at the burner with the coils and work your way back to relays on the control. Sounds a lot like a bad coil on the burner. I have seen these do 2 complete loads then fail. Setting over night and cooling off will work again the same way. Intermittent conditions are a real challenge sometimes.

WILL NOT DRY

Check that the dryer duct at the back where it connects the dryer to the wall has not collapsed to restrict air movement to the house vent duct.

Check that the vent duct all the way to the outside of the house is not fully or partially restricted in any way.

Make sure the lint screen is clean.

Make sure there is no buildup of lint inside the dryer where the heat enter the drum.

You should be able to walk outside with the dryer running, and feel a blast of air exiting the dryer vent. If not, find the restriction.

A dryer warming up, and then shutting down is normally a sign of a restricted vent duct at some point in the system. Particularly if nothing is done, and the dryer heats up momentarily when the cycle is tried again.
