It's recommended to use factory setting when it comes to contrast, brightness, color and sharpness because the TV will not force itself to produce higher images.
This could also be customer preference how you want to set it up for a good viewing quality.

The Samsung LN40B540P8F I would rate a 9. Only God is 10.

All the DLP sets, you can throw out

All the Older Projection sets you can throw out

I would take the rest for scrap parts.

I hope this is helpful.

I have a 2004 Samsung 63" TV. I inherited it from the previous house owner and think it is a plasma. Is it safe to switch of the selectable fan, which makes a noise when it is on?

If it is the model you have this listing under which is HL-O5063W...It's a DLP not a Plasma. And From what I do know about mine, the buzzing very silently is normal, but when it gets annoying and loud, that's when you have a problem with a part. You probably had it "inherited" because they knew it was on the way to having problems and were probably just wanting to get rid of it. I would keep your fans on for this model...There are 2 that I know of for this model. The overall unit can generate a lot of heat in the rear panel area, so personally it's better to play safer vs. sorry. I would have it checked out to know what you're in for later. Kinda like maintaining a car, you ur still have to maintain your tv to be optimal. Not a big Deal. 6 yrs for a model like this is good. Mine has been overall pretty good to me. Hope this helps. Good luck

The mirror on the back of the Hitachi hd 51 in is broken can a regular mirror be a replacement or can you tell me where can i get a replacement for it. Rob

You can contact Hitachi for a local authorized repair facility.  The mirror has to be pretty precise and it definitely has to be in a specific alignment for the picture to be seen optimally.

How do i test the capacitors that are known to fail cp150 and the flyback transformer

You need to get the LCR meter such as one made by SENCORE, you can test for leakage, value, and ERS, and ringing test for the flyback transformer. I use SENCORE LC-75

You need to set the output format for HD to 1080i and the 4:3 override to 480i. See:

There is a user convergence that you can do - instructions in the operating manual typically right after the section on Magic Focus, or you can do a DCAM convergence:
