oh ok, well i took it to get fixed, and the lady (who is actually my neighbor and does this for a living) told me theres a virus in the memory and that the memory is in the motherboard. i was planning on maybe taking the comp apart to get to the motherboard and ?desoldering?< ? or whatever term is applicable to take the memory out and put new memory in, but i dont know how to do that. the comp wont go to windows, it will turn on, but it wont do anything else. i tried a recovery disk and it says file error 4 or something and i tried a win xp disk, and it wont even recognize that. says it is an unbootable cd. help?

oh and p.s. i'm not a moron, but i have never attempted to take apart a comp, let alone a laptop, whichever may be more difficult, i'm not sure.

how do i create a bootable disc? i dont have any floppies. i'm asking how because i dont have enough memory on a single disk to install the entire kaspersky program. ?

  • aplapcianu Jul 30, 2008

well i got the files written to a CD-R and when i put the cd in the toshiba laptop it prompts me to put a command or filename in...

    it says

    [DR-DOS] A:\>

but theres not a drive on here? idk what to do now.

  • aplapcianu Jul 30, 2008

i meant theres no A drive on here

  • aplapcianu Jul 30, 2008

well i got it to switch over to d:\ , but idk what command to prompt it to make/do?

  • aplapcianu Jul 30, 2008

yeah i checked the read files, and they dont say anything about giving any prompts.

  • aplapcianu Jul 30, 2008

yeah thats the link i used. maybe i didnt extract the files? i dont fukin know what the hell i'm doing. this is beyond frustrating. it said the files were burned to the cd, but i dont think it extracted them, and whenever i tried it just wouldnt. kept saying error this and error that.

Sorry, I don't have aim. Send your questions to the promblem directly to me, this way it's free, not as fast, but free, and I'll see if I can get you through this. We may go back and forth a few times, so be patient, I should be able to diagnose it or help you fix it.

I don't think that you will need to take your machine apart. I believe what she is talking about is the bios, which is the base programing for the board. So, we'll reprogram it (not as hard as it sounds) Go to the link bellow and create a bootable disc or floppy, then flash the bios by booting from this disc. It will erase the old bios and anything else in there (virus), then install the newer updated version. This should allow you to reload the system.

I'm not talking about putting the antivirus on a disc, you need to put the bios flash on disc. Get the bios download from Toshiba's support site, the download will have the requirements to create a bootable disc. Flashing the bios will erase any viruses in the bios.

If it was a bootable bios flash disc, then it should automatically run the operation. Check the download to see if there is a read file giving a command promt.

Follow this link for the bios flash. You see where the package section is, it reads; file includes both Windows-based and diskette based BIOS update installation options. This means that you can make a diskette for the installation with the download. You need to make the diskette.

Is this the download you did?

I know it's frustrating, been there! You will need to extract the files before burning to disc. The run or boot file is in there, and the machine won't be able to extract or read the zip files without the operating system up and running.

Removing memory from Satellite A65-S126 Toshiba laptop

The built in 256 is integrated into the motherboard, and is not removable. If it's faulty, then, unfortunately, the motherboard will have to be replaced. There's no other way around it.
