I put a new harddrive in a hp nc6400,changed the boot sequence for cdrom to run first,it would load the system ok,but when it restarts it saying no harddrive found..wtf

One bad lead or faulty connection point can cause a computer to shutdown continue restarting on a cycle or fail to detect your hard drive boot up

test all power and data leads that attach to your hard drive SATA

the leads from your (motherboard to your hard drive) make sure they have a secure dust free connections and are not faulty

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd have secure connections and are not faulty

even something as small as faulty fan lead can cause you problems

computers need all of the data and power to travel through every working device and to have an end for a computer to be able work properly

a motherboard and a hard drive any leads between them will fail before your motherboard or your hard drive check all power and data leads make sure they are securely seated even the cd/dvd drives need to have current go through make sure these devices are working

check the CPU central processing unit make sure it has thermal paste and dust free secure seating

also check your computer ram modules and cmos battery make sure it has charge and they are dust free and securely seated some motherboards cmos batteries are soldered in

hope it helps

Test the leads that attach to your (hard drive from the motherboard) make sure they have dust free secure connections or replace all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE SATA and the ones that attach from your (motherboard to hard drive) if its a 40 pin flat ribbon IDE this will be the first to fail

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd and floppy drive have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs continue its cycle power and data to travel through every working device and have an end point so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

Finding it hard to put leads back on to motherboard to boot up

From the motherboard number you gave, I think it's made by ECS. Take a look at the picture on this page at the ECS site and see if it looks like your board:

http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Products/ProductsDetail.aspx?CategoryID=1&DetailID=530&DetailName=Feature&MenuID=52&LanID=0

If it's the one you have, you can download the manual just by clicking the link below the picture. You can also get any other information and driver updates that you might need.

Please take a moment to give this solution a good rating if it's been helpful.
