Make sure machine is properly threaded, always put in a new needle of correct size for fabric you are sewing, and clean lint and any loose threads with brush from shuttle race and feed dog. Also, make sure you are placing needle thread and bobbin thread at least five inches in length under and behind center of the presser foot. Make sure feed dog in the UP position. I hope this helps as I have over 30 years experience and have never had to send any of my machines out for service. You can fix that machine!!! Even timing can be corrected, although that does not seem to be your particular issue. I hope this info helps.

I'm having a problem threading my brother sewing machine model XL 3010

1. Clean up any loose thread in the bobbin area.
2. Pull on the bobbin thread while it is out. It should give a tension that is equal to the top tension of three. You'll have to approximate. Adjust the screw tension on the bobbin. It is the screw nearest to the thread exit hole on the side.
3. Put it back in.
4. Now, the top tension should be at about three. If it still allows a little wad on the bottom of the fabric you can adjust the top tension by tightening a small amount and monitor each time you adjust. The wad should go away.

How do I fix the stitching on my Brother XL-3010?

Your tension sounds far too loose. Or your needle is blunt.

Why Doesn't my sewing machine want to pick up the bobbin thread correctly?

if the bobbin case isn't turning properly are you sure you it in right.
Hold the lever on it out, slide the case on the spindle all the way and then release the lever. Also try a different length needle, it may be to long to allow a uniform stitch

I am trying to use a twin needle, however, every time I begin sewing the machine makes a very unhappy sound as though the needle is being blocked as it tries to pick up the bobbin thread. I have tried ...

check to see if the twin needle are damaged
check the bobbin & make sure the bobbin case is thread correctly
needle & thread may not be compatable
here's how to check
Cut 6-8 inch piece of thread of the spool you are going to use for your project
Take the needle you are going to use for the project
& insert the thread thru the eye of the needle
& lift one end of the thread to a 45 degree angle
& if the needle is the right size for the thread it will slide down the thread
But if the needle hangs on the thread you need one size larger needle for the thread

Sewing machine XL 5500 settings

Your bobbin is probably too loose. When you set a new bobbin, stop every now and then and try with your fingers nail if it's nice and tight enough. Not extremely tight, but tight, not loose and moves easily when you set your finger between the threads.

With most fabrics (99%) the plate is fine at the the top position, just with very thick and "fragile" (satins etc) you might need to adjust it.

Settings: Tightest tension for the thinnest materials, more loose for the thicker ones, better have a test piece, it rarely goes under 5 anyway.

with the brother its Pretty easy. you drop the bobbin in with the thread heading counter clockwise take your thread around the feed guide in a Clock wise manner then turn your knob it should pick the tread up fairly easily
