We took it apart and found the fuse. It seems as though it needs a 3.15 amp fuse with 250 volts. We can only find 3amps with 250 volts. We have been to ACE, Home Depot and Radio Shack. Any ideas?

The stabiliser would have fused out so replace the fuse alone then the unit will work

I need an expert. I've had 3 AC men out and all 3 say they've been in the business 20-30 years and have never seen a thermostat blow up and set fire.

Trying to get your warranty to work by using statements found on fixya isn't a good idea. However, if there were no other power failures elsewhere in the house, and there were no meteorological events in the area, it was unlikely a power surge nor lightning. However, a short in the unit ITSELF could easily cause this damage, and would also explain the unit's intermittent operation.

Samsung AQV24U series - recent electrical blackout - now keeps beeping every 30 seconds and won't turn on - have switched off mains and separate cut off switch for air cond and still continues

It sounds like you had an electrical surge and it has damaged your unit. I would suggest contacting your home owner insurance and see what they recommend. This may not work depending on your deductibable.

Frigidaire FRA 155MT1 melted the extension cord and surge protector

You must use a heavy duty power cord with this unit as it draws alot of amerage. Most regular extension cords csnnot handle the amperage and overheat or melt.

Please check outdoor unit. Compressor or fan motor getting high amps due to overheat. Clean condenser coil. If still problem, replace running capacitor. If out door fan less rpm replace fan capacitor. In some unit 2 in 1 capacitor is there. So replace one capacitor will rectify fan and compressor problem. Thanks. Helpful?

Power surge/Control Panel

The control board blew. You will need to replace the control board on your unit and everything will work correctly again. When a power surge happens it will blow the weakest link, and if your system is not on a protected outlet then the weakest link is your control board.

Any qualified electrician will be able to fix it. It shouldn't take more then 1/2 hour for them do to it, and they can even put on a cable that will protect your dog/the cable from biting through again and possibly getting electrocuted. Overall cost should be less then 50 dollars. Check the Yellowpages if you don't know an electrician.

Samsung Remote for my Air condition/ heater unit no longer works

I would post this question in the electronics section. Some of those guru's may be able to guide you through fixing it. Have you actually called the manufacturer about the remote? If so then try to google the unit to see if someone out there may have a few tucked back somewhere. Other than that, there isn't much you can do.
