Intel Express 9200 Router

ER9200 trying to use async. PC card for connect to...

By Phoebe - usenet poster

One of ours resellers sold 25 ER9200 Intel Routers, and the customer (a Bank) is using them for its branches, connected by a X.25 public network.
The equipment is running OK.
But a Bank requirement is to have an async. backup line for connect to a public X.25 PAD using standard phone lines, when the X.25is down . I'm not sure I think We need V.25bis support.
The customer say that any Cisco router ( from the 1600 model) support this feature.
The ER9200 can't support this, but may be that some gur?? send me any solution
Can anybody help us ?

Thanks

Alberto:

Thank you for your patience while I researched your inquiry.

I have reviewed all of the information you sent in and I have
determined that this functionality can not be implemented on our
Intel(R) Express 9200 Router. We do not support X.25 over the
asynchronous link. I have passed this along to the appropriate people
as a feature request.

Thank you.

Hi again,

I am confused.  Are you saying that you are still unable to get it to work, or that you have been able to get it to work, and it is described somewhere below in your posting?

NO doesn't work. I'm sending to you the string that use it with a Cisco router may be useful for find customer requirements
REQUESTED FEATURES:

THEY NEED THAT OUR ROUTER MAKE AN ASYNCHRONOUS CALL TO ANY OF THE PUBLIC X.25 PAD PHONE NUMBER AND SEND THIS CARACTERS
"30201165"<cr><lf>
THE NEXT STEP IS MAKE THE CONNECTION

PAD X.28 PHONE NUMBERS: Buenos Aires
(01) 824-7733
(91) 951-1695
(01) 954-2424
(01) 954-0024

This conection requirement is only for Backup purposes in the event that the main conection is down.
Is for a connection between Headquarters and 27 branches..
They need to use this option throught the IUR+ service from a carrier called Advance.

We need :
A Un informe de Cisco explaining if is factible how to make it with Cisco Routers
I???m waiting your answer, thanks.

I???m sending to you a document showing you How to make it.
For support 27 branches I recommend a 4500,4700 or 3640 equipment for the headquarters.
X.25 ANALOG  PHONE LINE BACKUP CONFIGURATION PROCEDURE

The next procedure describe the backup scheme implementation

A Main  router  with many routers lines accesing it ( star )  if you wish to provide  a backup service for down in any line  ( eg. Bank Headquarter and their branches ).
The Main Router  require one X.25 line only.
The remote branch routers need  a phone line asynchronous modem  , connected to auxiliar   port or any asynchronous port   in the router (may be CISCO1600 with WIC-1T or 2509, 2511, 2520 ,2522, etc).

How it work:

When the line is down , the remote router use  an script programmed for  dial to a X.28 access phone number, make a X.25 call to the Main Router, make the authentication procedure with it and later to access  in ppp mode el router remoto utiliza un script programado para discar a un n??mero telef??nico de un acceso X.28, realizar la llamada X25 al router central .  autenticarse en el  mismo ,e ingresar en modo ppp , proponiendole al central una direcci??n ip de trabajo.

HARDWARE CONSIDERATIONS

In the auxiliar port we need to connect  una manguera  RJ 45 / RJ 45 cruzada Cisco code ???72-0876-01???.
In the modem end we use an  RJ45 to db25 male adapter Cisco model: ??? 74-0458-01 ???.

Pinouts:

Alberto:

Thank you for your follow up.

While we continue to research your issue, can you determine what model
of modem the scripts you sent earlier are designed to work with? Also,
can you determine if that modem is available in a PC Card model, and
if it is, what is its model and part number?

Thank you.

Hi Alberto,

With the Express 9200 Router, you can have the PCMCIA slot support  PC-Card asynchronous modems.  See the link at http://support.intel.com/suppo rt/express/routers/9xxx/23393. htm for
specific modems.  Would this work for you?
