This generally indicates a paper jam. I had this happen just yesterday, and SWORE there was no jam. And of course my wife looks at it for 2 minutes and finds the paper jam. So be sure to give a serious lookover 2 or 3 times, and get a fresh pair of eyes on it if you still cant locate it.

Ready and alarm lights keep blinking. will not print

Service manual: ready and alarm blinking :
Paper Jam
Clear the paper jam and press the panel button if the printer
does not automatically resume printing.
Misfeed:
Re-install the paper and press the panel button.

Clear the jammed paper inside the printer. Press the panel button
if the printer does not automatically resume printing.

check the sensors:
1) Turn off the printer power switch, open the front cover, and remove the drum unit.
2) Turn on the printer while pressing the control panel button. The Drum LED comes ON.
3) Lightly press the panel button again.
Alarm LED is ON = Front registration sensor is turned ON.
4) Press and release the panel button again.
Drum LED is ON = Paper eject sensor is turned ON.

If sensors are On, paper is being detected, Off- no paper

I replaced the toner cartridge, but I am getting a blinking green ready light with a blinking red alarm light. will not print.

This is a paper jam error. Try reloading the paer if you can not find any paper stuck inside the printer. Then press the start button.

Brother HL-1440 LASER PRINTER requires ''Service Call A''.

currently, the error you have is not a service errorl, ready and alarm blink means that you have either a paper jam, no paper, or a paper misfeed.

do you get this error only when you try to print?
according to the service manual the lights can not alternate in blinking.

Printer Problems

Hi, it sounds like you need to change the drum. If you are using the High Yield TN660 toner is your printer, then the drum needs changing every 3-4 toners. If using the low yield TN6300 toner then your drum needs to be replaced every 6-7 toners. Hope this helps

Printer won't print

According to the operation manual: If alarm light and data light blink every 5 seconds- TONER LOW (purchase more toner and have it ready when the 'toner empty' is indicated). If alarm light and data light stay lit- TONER EMPTY (replace toner cartrige with new one).
