You don't mention the model number, so this info is generic:
Think of it like water flowing, in one end and out the other. Each patch cord will run from the input to an output. The receiver or amplifier has inputs for the tuner, tape deck(s), turntable (sometimes high & low) and auxiliary, which could be TV or whatever other sound source you have, a cd player, e.g.
The outputs from the various sound players will go to the inputs on the receiver. The tape deck will also have an input - that's for the tape out from the receiver, which sends a signal of other sources to the tape for recording.
If there's a separate amp and preamp, the preamp output will be the amp input.
Use red on right, white on left, and be consistent.
Speaker wires should be connected in phase, i.e. make sure the striped side of the wire is always either plus or minus, but be consistent from speaker to speaker, and do the same on both ends of the connection, from amp(receiver) to speaker.
