If Acer blows me off then I'll go through Circuit City with the extended warranty.   Thanks

Acer said oh well it's out of warranty but htey did give me a link to Acer battery recall site, www.acerbatteryrecall.com/acerweb/ , mine wasn't on it, good I guess.  Circuit City said bring in laptop serial, model number and sales receipt and they would order it, take about two weeks.

This is most likely a bad battery. The battery has a built in discharge circuit that keeps the battery from draining when the machine is off. I'd say the this has malfunctioned, and that a new battery will fix the problem. Let me know.

Don't let them give you a run around. Circuit City is better than Bestbuy, but I've still heard a few horror stories. Don't be afraid to get luod with a manager, lol. Good luck, and let me know.

Battery life extension

All batteries lose their capacity to hold a charge over time, but how you take care of them can affect how quickly this occurs. To keep batteries better for longer, try to drain them nearly all the way before charging, and charge them fully every time. If you're not going to be using the battery for a while (a couple weeks or longer) drain it to about 80% before storing it. For laptops and other devices that often stay plugged in, fully drain and charge the battery about once a month. Doing these things can help slow down the degradation of the batteries in your gadgets.

A couple weeks ago, after plugging my HP laptop back in after using it, I noticed that my battery did not start charging immediately. Since then, the power level in the battery has slowly been dropping...

Yes, you have come up with the right answer.

Most laptop batteries do well to last 1 year before they wear out. You have done very well to stretch out 3 years on this battery. Good work!

If you want some help finding a replacement battery, please reply with the full model number of the laptop and I'll track one down for you.

My battery life lasts 1 1/2 hur. i was told it will last up to 7hurs. how can i fix that. it's a 6 cell battery and it's fully charged. Thank you.

I've rarely seen a 7 hours battery capabality for laptops (seen it ownly in notebooks), normaly they last at the most 4 to 5 h. with laptop running in minimal performance mode...

how old is the battery? if it's new it should last aproximately the time of the specified ratings in the laptop's normal use (according to it's manual) if not it could be defective ask for exchange

if it's an old battery you could try to refresh it by draining it down COMPLETELY and charging it back several times (5 to 10 time)

the best way to drain it completely is to boot in to the BIOS (on battery power) and let it drain untill the computer shutt's off, than re-charge, and so on...

Good luck!

Acer Aspire 5738Z won't hold charge

Sorry. It seems that your battery is dead.
If your laptop is working fine on AC power only (with the battery disconnected), then your battery will need to be replaced.

My HP G30 530US Laptop won't turn on. This mourning I was using it and was in a rush, battery was 9% and I just closed the screen so it was on sleep mode, got home at 10pm and now it doesn't turn on even...

It might possibly be due to the static charge accumulated on the battery conductors. Not to worry; Please remove the battery of the Laptop and without the charger connected, you need to hold the power button to turn ON the Laptop for 1 min. This will consume all the energy from the battery conductors.

This process is called power drain.

Now connect the battery and connect the AC adapter, now try to start the computer.

I am sure this will help you turn ON the computer.

How do i check battery

Special equipment is necessary to check the battery of a laptop computer. The equipment will test the charging ability as well as the performance of the battery under the standard "load" of operating the computer. If yours is no longer holding a charge, or the charge lasts only a short period, it's very likely that the battery is simply worn out. Typically expect that if a battery is more than 2 years old, you'll be running out of life for it. Some batteries last longer, some much shorter. For example, Toshiba's Tecra series batteries seem to wear out and drain their charge quickly after about 6-12 months, needing a new battery.

If the battery is less than a year old, the manufacturers warranty may stipulate free replacement.

The Acer Aspire 5100 has been out since 2006. If yours is an older model, it may simply be time to replace the battery. You may find a local computer repair shop that will test your battery for free since it's very simple for them to do.

Hope this helps, good luck!
