Hi,

First make sure you have the right modules (DDR 1 or 2 and the speed 400mhz or something similar).
Then when you insert the new modules, does the computer beep?
Of not then you ok, if it gives you al log beep there is a memory error.
And if you have a integrated GPU it takes some memory for its own use.
Or maybe the computer cannot handle 2GB.

Hope this helps!

Will Mercury 810e motherboard support 1.0 GB (512 MBX2) SD RAM?

I cannot directly answer that question because you did not supply the motherboard model number. You will have to look this up yourself, here is the url for Mercury support
http://www.mercury-pc.com/downloads.php
The model number is usually printed on the motherboard, find it and you can download the manual, specs and drivers.

RAM chip sets

It is OK to mix chip (SODIMM) capacities in the 2 slots in your notebook.

The best system performance will be when you have 2 x 512MB but for now if you install 1 x 512MB, you could even leave the old chip in the other slot, it'll be fine.

Gateway MX6428 1.6GHZ 960 RAM runs extremely slow, have tried Optimize, PC Pittstop etc nothing sems to speed it up. Still plenty of disk space available. Is addtional RAM an option?

You should be showing 1024 NOT 960, this has me thinking the RAM module in the stick is faulty, YES your system is upgradable to: 1024 MB DDR (2x 512 MB) SODIMM (PC2700) Expandable to 2 GB

I would ask you to get the 2 1 GIG sticks and you can put them in your self it's very easy and assessable thru the under side of your PC. You can get RAM and Best buy, Circuit City and almost anywhere that sells computer stuff.

I want to upgrade my HP BA 600 Mother Board`s RAM Capacity

    Hello,
Most likely your MB is too old for this upgrade although there is a chance you could flash your bios (reprogram your computer's brain to accept the new memory providing hp has a flash for it).
here is a link for the latest bios flash for your computer, use at your own risk.
