What setting are required for setting up ...

hello there, I have had all my internet and extra internet access points added to my phone also to many gprs access points also and just cant seem to figure out or find enough info on connecting to the ipod in this way even though i am sure it can be done , i havnt a clue of my current "server settings" nor any of the other account info :( if on my phone i leave my user id blank is that to be said for the setup on the ipod ?? pls assist as this is driving me insane.
also feel free to wind me up my misses wil find it funny im sure lol :D
