Regarding powershred 480

The machine will not turn off after we shred something. We have to keep the power off when we are not using it.

Thank you so much. We have tried cleaning it with rubbing alcohol and q-tips but realixed the sensor needed replacing. I just wish they sent me instructions with the part. :)

I have a similar problem with the bin full light and understand I have to clean the sensors. The sensor you could be having trouble with is probably up in the feed slot area. Have a look at it with a flashlight and see if there is paper dust covering the sensor. I clean mine with a toothpick.
I haven't had much luck in finding an official description of where the sensors lurk, just trial and error.
Hope this amateur suggestion helps.

How do I clean the sensors

Before you do anything with this machine unplug the power lead. Switching off is not enough.
Everything you can do is in the manual:

The red light is on and it will only shred backwards. what does that mean?

it means you have a jam. check below the shredder heads for paper hanging down triggering the jam sensor. to check this, open the front door, remove the waist basket or bag, then look up underneath. Make sure it is turned off and unplugged so there is no chance of an accident.

If you see paper hanging down, remove the paper, and try it.

hope this helps!

Shredder motor will run in reverse, but not

Sounds like a bad or dirty switch you can try to clean it with alcohol ( the switch that gets activated by the paper)

The "bin full" keeps on coming on

first off, fellowes has had problems with the bin full sensors that sometimes, can only be corrected by replacing them. however, there are two things to check. make sure it doesn't have a bunch of shredded paper hanging down from the cutters. that can trigger the bin light as the sensore are located under the head, but above basket. last, but not least, clean the sensors. they get paper dust on them after awhile causing same indication. if those two things don't fix it, it will have to have sensors replaced.

good luck,

Only one-half (righ side) of the shredder works, left side does not shred

Fellowes has a five year warranty on the cutting block of their shredders. (The cutting block is that part of the machine that actually does the shredding of the paper) Take it back to the store where you bought it ans they should either replace the cutting block or exchange the entire machine, but it will take about a week or more, depending on where you are located. At least it shouldn't cost you anything.
