Mixer does not work at low speeds

I have just moved and I think something must have come loose in my mixer during the move. It was working fine before, but now will not do anything unless I put in on the highest speed. Any ideas?

    Spiral movement belt tension

The belt adjustment must be carried out if the spiral is slowing down.

    1.
    Take the head cover off

    2. Loosen the four screws of the motor support without unscrewing them completely,

    then unscrew the nut

    3.
Set the correct belt tension with the screws and fasten the nut 4. fasten the four motor support screws

    5. Fix the upper cover on again

Could also be a broken wire to the control plate. It's not very often the plate itself. Just looking in there while operating the lever may reveal something. The shaft at the bottom that moves the plate closes a set of points to start the mixer, maybe the points are loose and not closing when they should. Just be careful operating it with the cover off and alive.

Motor head on Kitchen Aid KSM150PSWW is loose when in operation.

Are you engaging the head lock during operation? if not that is why it is loose. If you are it is not uncommon for the head to move around a little under heavy loads, when I make bread the head is always trying to come up so I have to use the head lock switch whenever I use the mixer on bread. It is the only time I lock it down.

I was given a Kitchen Aid 45SS mixer that is over 20 years old but never used. Is there oiling or other maintenance procedure I shoild perform before using? Thanks. Chuck Volkema

I read thru the owners manual for this unit and there is no recommendations for internal service. no reference to lubrication except for keeping the outside free from flour caking up on the moving parts. I have one of these and have seen the inside, they are built like tanks, you should be fine. i would recommend letting it run for a while on low speed to speed the lube around the internal parts, nothing more should be needed. Just make sure it doesnt sound as if the motor is laboring on low speed, this would indicate that internal lube is necessary. I think it will be fine...Worm1855

My kitchenaid mixer speed control is locked in the off position and wont move. It was working 2 min earlier when it was turned off from a prior mix.

You can try moving the lever slightly up or down while moving it forward to see if this will free it it or make a difference. Otherwise, the spring inside may have snapped or the speedlink cam may have came loose or broke. Either one will require the top end assembly to be removed to replace these parts.

My 325 watt, 5 quart artisan stand mixer won't work on "stir" speed. All other speeds work fine, but when I put the switch on stir, I just hear the motor whining like it's trying to work, but...

By not working to mean that the planetary gear wont move? or does it just make a weird noise when it is on a low setting? If the gear is completely stripped the unit shouldn't run on any speed regardless if there is mixture in the bowl or not. Since I can't see the mixer I would say that there might be a slight tear in the gear which would only allow the mixer to get stuck on a slow speed where as on a high speed it is running fast enough to skip that particular tooth. I understand that the mixer is brand new but when it comes to mixers you can strip a gear right out of the box depending on the consistency of the batter you are mixing. If the machine is under a year old it is under warranty and you are allowed free service by an authorized repair center in your area.

My K45SS started making a VERY loud noise when in use, and the lowest and highest gears don't work. Machine is about 20 yrs old.

This sometimes happens when the two nuts holding the motor in place become loose. To check, open up the back and move the foam around the edge to see the two nuts. Tighten them if they are loose. If the low speed still does not work, the screw adjustment at the bottom of the control plate may need adjustment.

I have to physically hold my Artisan mixer in place or it will go off the counter, even at low speeds. Seems to rotate fine as long as the head isn't down with an attachment on and in the bowl.

I think from your description that the the head connecting to the base shaft needs tightening. Put the mixer on it's side. Look up inside the base and you'll see a small set screw.
With a flat blade screw driver tighten that screw and it should stop moving. If it doesn't you probably need another shaft because it's worn.

Blakeslee (Kenwood) A717 mixer speed control

I had the same problem. Had to strip the machine down to get to the motor. On the top is a moving plate with various capacitors etc mounted. On the front side there was a Capacitor (At least I think it was) with the wire broken.
I resoldered it and the machine now works fine.

I hope this helps

Mixer just won't turn on -speed control jammed

Unplug the appliance. Take it to a well ventilated area and spray some alcohol in the slot where the switch is while trying to move it. This must be done with the appliance unplugged and the appliance must be thourughly dry when you plug it in. Use canned air or if you have one a compressor.
