Whirlpool GS5SHAXNB00 Side by Side Refrigerator Light Problem

The lights on the refrigerator side only are all out and there is buzzing noise from what sound like some sort of relay under the unit. There was a comment on another thread regarding a bad diode on a control board.
1. Is this the same issue?
2. Where is the control board located?

Thanks.

SOURCE: I have a whirlpool side by side refrigerator model

you need to replace the main/board for sure located in the lower rear left hand wall of the unit in a plastic case, it will have 3 wire harnesses unplug the unit, undo the plastic container and unplug the the board and there will be a burned spot on the case and burned trace on the circuit board, reason being, this is very common on any of these sideXsides,if a light blows out in the refrige compartment it puts a surge on the board and burns the circuit trace open, this makes the digital temp read-out go dark and if the lamps light at all they "strobe" dimly or not at all,and you will hear a clicking of the relays in the rear area trying to latch the light bulb circuitry, but cant because the main/mother-board is defective now

SOURCE: Model gs5shaxnb00. Whirlpool refrigerator Ice maker

Does it make a noise like it is attempting to dispense ice, the whirling noise of the metal coil inside attempting to push out ice? Or does it make no noise at all? It could be a failed ice "coil" motor, or a failed sensor in the door telling the ice coil to move. Try unplugging the fridge for a good 2 minutes, replugging it in and seeing if it resets the motor and sensor.

Thanks, let me know!
Tim

Not staying cold

tell me do you hear a buzzing sound for about 5 sec ending with a click sound. every so often?? if so then you have a start device (relay) problem on the compressor you may think the unit is running b/c the lights are on and fan is on but if you hear that noise coming from the back of the unit while turned on then its the start relay or worse case the compressor is locked up..9-10 though usually its the start device

Refrigerator not cooling, freezer not freezing. Can hear fan running continuouisly and an occasional buzzing noise that lasts for about 20 seconds then ends with a clicking sound.

the buzzing and click noise is the ptc overload relay on the compressor, its bad, unplug it off the compressor and obtain a replacement and plug in the new one

Interior light malfunction and they buzz

Main control board located in white plastic enclosure at rear bottom of unit is bad, a burnt tracing on the board plus a few board component issues. Buzzing noise is from a confused relay. A Whirlpool product issue??? This appears to be a common problem and is discussed in several different forums. Implemented and "no cost" work around as detailed in one of the forums. Unit appears to function properly after repair/re-work.

. Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.

You need to clean your coils under the 'fridge,' and wait 24 hours, if it is not not getting cold, perhaps replace the freon. If that does not work, you need to call a repairman.

INTERMINENT BUZZING NOT COOLING

from your description it sounds as if the compressor is not starting up. the buzzing noise usually occurs approx. ever 3-5 minutes and is followed by a click. this indicates either a bad start relay or a stuck compressor. and from the model you listed it is most likely the compressor. if the unit is under 5 yrs old it should still be in warranty thru sears.
Thanks for using FixYa Peyton

Loud buzzing noise from inside Jenn Air 2389G fridge

i don't know jennair specifically being from england.
however, there is often a fan inside the back panel and the noise you heard was the fan hitting ice. the reason now not heard and fridge not working may be that the ice has built up so much the fan is jammed
