The problem is simply that your media player does not have the codec "driver" it needs to play that type of file. There are many codec packs available that you can install. A good site to find them is: http://www.free-codecs.com/

If you can determine which codec your file uses, just download and install the appropriate codec pack. If you are unsure what the codec is, you may want to install one of the Xvid packs. It's a very common codec which is normally not installed into players by default, so there's a good chance that's what it is. You can download it here.

Good luck!

For most of the media players or other applications, codec are very important in that they can be applied to play and create media files. In terms of the encoding and decoding functions, not all the codecs contain the two parts. Some specific codecs only include one of them.
You can download and install the codec for your media player. You can also try Leawo Blu-ray Player. which can play WVID file smoothly.

Dell latitude wont play mp4 video

dvancavage,

Your problem might be missing codecs. A codec (compressor/decompressor) is used to 'decode' a video or sound. A video practically needs 2 codecs; a video codec and an audio codec.

To resolve your issue, try installing K-Lite Codec Pack Pro. This will ensure you to play all types of videos and music in your computer. Install the program without changing the settings if you don't know how to change them.

Also, I suggest you un-install any other Media Players that you have and leave Windows Media Player 11 (upgrade it to 11; it's free!), QuickTime and iTunes. Set Windows Media Player 11 as your default too so you can automatically play all the files you want with WMP11. http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_li...
K-Lite Codec Pack! Download the latest PRO version/ It's FREE!

MKV codec for GOM Player

You can't add codecs to GOM Player - they are enbedded.
Use instead VLC, this player truly supports pretty much everything.

The video file you try to open might not be a proper video/audio format.

If you insist on using the GOM Player, you have to install the codec from http://www.free-codecs.com/index.htm,

Suggestion,
Install the "K-Lite Mega Codec Pack" or "K-Lite Codec Pack" to your PC/Laptop.

Alternatively you can install Free media players like VLC Media Player Or MPCStar Player which will play most of the Audio/video formats.

I am having trouble accessing videos/pics. on my laptop

Since your question is not so clear, I have to assume myself that pictures and videos saved on your phone can't play on your computer after they are transferred to your computer. The message simply means that the codec installed on your system does not support the media type that you are playing. If you don't have any other player installed on your system you have to try with this one Vlc media Player (click here to download). Download it, and install, now open the downloaded files (video or pic or audio) using this player. Hopefully that should work. Alternatively you can use this player instead of Windows Media Player, but on the other hand, you can still play those files using Windows Media Player. The only thing you need is to install a codec, like Klite megacodec packs, Acemega codec packs, etc.. Click here to download Klite mega codec packs Download, Install and restart your computer, now you'll be able to play any type of media file using your windows media player and other players.

If you have problem, let me know.

Good luck.

I cannot open my videos (taken on Aiptek DV4100 M) on Windows Media Player (running Vista), The error message is ''missing codec''. I've looked but seems this camcorder is too old (or cheap) to be able to...

Windows media player does not have the video codec to play it. Download and Install DivX on your machine, it has a universal codec and it is free. Once installed try to play it back on Windows media player. You can try VLC player as well.

Hope this helps.
