I would remove the battery and re install some times this works. If you have some real physical damage it may be cheaper to buy a new one than repair if it's a point and shoot camera good luck
First of all - STOP using your WD drive immediately! If you
continue using the disk drive, you significantly increase the risk that
the files you want to recover will be lost forever due to overwritten.
Every new file or action will take up more "free space" and reduce your
chances of retrieving your deleted files from WD. So really, you need to
act quickly.
The next step - get a good HDD data recovery software to retrieve the data as most as possible.
I would find that highly unlikely, in all the years of service I have never seen what you have described, in all cases it was human intervention. The lcd screens are quite robust unless you leave glasses on the keyboard or other object and close the lid which will crack the lcd or a fall.
you have physically damaged the hard drive beyond economic repair. you will have to send the drive to a specialist to recover any data on it. good news is you can buy an internal hard drive to replace the damaged one.
hard drive is damaged. Files could be restore for some hefty fee's through bestbuy, office dept etc... otherwise it's damage, done, dealt with, and need to be replaced/
It is normal for this scanner to briefly "scan" when it is plugged in. However, the moving lens shouldn't go all the way down to the back end. It sounds like the scanner is physically damaged, most likely the belt slipped several cogs and now the scanning mechanism is out of alignment. Look into warranty service for the unit.
A qualified technician would charge about $50 to take a look at it. If any parts are broken, and replacement parts happen to be available, add another $50.
