My flash drive (8GB Sandisk Micro) has stopped functioning. Basically I plug it in and get no lights and the computer doesn't recognise it. It has ALL my photos of my precious daughter on it :( If the computer can't recognise it I don't see how recovery software might help. I have pulled it open and all solders appear to be fine, though the drive is getting really hot when plugged in, for even just a short time (less than 1min)

I have special data recovery software just for this purpose. Send me an E-mail and I will send it to you as an attachment. Also send me you number and I will call you for free to teach you how to install the software and retrieve your files. I know where you are coming from I lost 2 gig sd full of mp'3 before I found this software. I wound up just reformatting it and it worked fine, but I lost all my stuff. I wish I had someone to teach me what I had to learn the hard way. Anyway, do NOT format the Flashdrive! I will get your stuff back for you.
George geokohler @gmail.com. Make sure you rate this one a Fixya for me Bro. Thanks

Have you tried plugging the memory card into an external USB card reader? If not try that, you can pick one up online for less then 10 dollars. Is it the only card you are having problems with? Have you tried reading other cards in your computers card reader? The card reader in you computer may have failed or the drivers for the card reader may be corrupted. If you have a nother flash card try to read it with your computers card reader and let me know if it works.

I need the exact make and model number of your computer and the tpye and size of your flash card. I will find a link for you where you can download and install new updated drivers for the card reader in your computer. I think your readers drivers may be corrupted. The new drivers will fix this for you if this is the case. You can also buy an external USB reader and try that. Whatever you do do not try to reformat the flash drive or we will not be able to get your files back. Don't worry, I will get this fixed for you. Get back to me with all the info I need. Hope to here from you soon.

    George

Pc states a malfunction and does not recognise my external hd

I have the same Personal Media Drive and one day it just stopped being recognized by the computer. The drive access light flashed on and off rapidly. I came to find out that the actual drive inside the unit was a Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 drive which has multiple reports of locking up. It is a firmware issue with the drive. You cannot unlock the drive by powering on/off the drive. It is possible to "unlock" the drive but you'll need to remove the actual hard drive from the personal media drive case and rig up some electronics to trick the drive into unlocking. There are a lot of detailed instructions on the internet, just google "seagate drive unbrick"- you'll find plenty of guidance. I performed the procedure and my data came back unharmed. Of course you want to make sure that you follow the unbricking procedure by flashing new firmware. I had used my drive 3 times to back up data and was about 15 months old - HP offered absolutely no help.

If I were you I would remove the HDD from the computer and place it in an external enclosure, and then connect it via usb to another computer. This will allow you to retrieve the info you need. As for getting that computer back up and running, once you remove the files you need replace the HDD back into the system and reformat using the recovery CD's

Had this exact problem on the same model (Dell Inspiron 1000) laptop. Solution was simple: remove battery, problem goes away. I guess the battery was so far gone it was hanging the BIOS on startup.

Check Engine light flashing

Pull the code(s) at the moment the Check Engine light is flashing. Purchase an OBDII scanner (Auto Zone, Car Quest, O'Riely's, etc.) Be ready when it happens... do not shut off the engine ... plug the OBDII scanned into the DLC (Data Link Connector) and retrieve the code(s) at the moment it happens. If you still don't retrieve any codes when this happens, you have a malfunctioning ECM (Engine Control Module). Before you replace it (if this actually happens - no codes and Check Engine light is flashing), Disconnect both battery cables and touch them together for 30 seconds. Reconnect them to the battery and drive vehicle to see if it happens again (could be junk/corruption in ECM memory banks). If it happens again, the ECM is malfunctioning. REASONING: Whenever the "Check Engine" light comes on, there is ALWAYS a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) stored in the ECM (Engine Control Module). If no codes are retrieved, there's only one cause - ECM MALFUNCTION!

I really need to recover files from my sandisk cruzer

Have you tried this? restart your computer and plug your USB in again(this helps to clean the buffer), see if you drive can be recognized.

If you still can't access the data inside, try this data recovery program Wondershare Data Recovery. Get the program here,

Windows Data Recovery (Windows Version)
Mac Data Recovery (Mac OS version)

Take care - Before those items are recovered, stop saving more files to the device in case the file data are overwritten!
