Tip

To to reinstall a sound driver on your laptop

  1. Locate an installer for you original sound driver. This can be the biggest issue when one accidentally deletes a sound driver. Computers and sound cards come with driver CDs, but you may not be able to locate the original CD. If you can't find your driver CD, you will have to download the old driver from your computer manufacturer's website or from your sound card manufacturer's website. Use the device manager by right-clicking on My Computer, selecting Properties and then selecting the Hardware tab to look for sound, video and game controllers and to learn more about your sound device.
  2. Delete the currently installed sound driver before reinstalling the old one to avoid conflicts. To uninstall the driver, use the same device manager menu from Step One, select your sound device and click Properties. There should be an option under properties to uninstall the drivers.
  3. Run the auto installer on the original drivers. The installer will take you through several general steps, which will probably only require you to click Next a few times without changing any settings.
  4. Restart your computer when the driver installer is finished.

Since you say that you accidentally deleted something, my money would be on the drivers. Does it work with external speakers?

Since the driver was already installed, you just need to do the following:

Step1 : Open Control Panel from Start/Settings/Control Panel
Step2 : Open 'Device Manager'
Setp3: Select "Scan for hardware changes" from under the Action Tab.

This should fix your sound device

I accidentally removed the sound device in my computer, how do i reinstall it

If you have only done this recently, try doing a system restore to a date prior to when you deleted the device. There is a good chance this will solve your problem.

Would appreciate feedback if this works

We have a picture but no sound on the laptop. Is it a case of the sound hardware been accidentally deleted from the laptop or has it just been turned off.

go to start>>control panel>>sound and audio devices
under the volume tab. see if you have a audio device install. if it is install, you should be abel to control the volum and make sure uncheck the mute button box.
if you don't see the aufio device, then you have to install the device.
go to control panel>>system>>device manger and see what type of audio device is listed.
if you can't fine it. check on manufacture web site to get the audio device and driver.
