Hp pavilion dv5 1102tu. i am facing motherboard problem. can i get it repaired?

A lot of HP Pavilion laptops suffered from improperly installed VGA chips on the motherboard which did not have properly thermal control. Overtime the chip will partially or entirely lose contact from the motherboard and you will experience this symptom.


This started with early 2007ish Pavilion DV2000, 6000, and 9000 series laptops, but has been an ongoing issue in several models since. A repair is possible, but NOT by baking your motherboard or using a thermal heatgun.

You need to take it to a lab with an infrared REFLOW machine to properly REFLOW the solder from the VGA chip to the motherboard. Going rates are from $75 to $150 flat for the job.

Please try the folowing

1) Remove ALL wires and then press and hold the power button in for approx 20 seconds

2) Plug everything back in and then rerty

This may sort the issue out however from what you are descrbing, if there is no boot or display it is highly likely the motherboard and/or the CPU is faulty

I would recommend that you book the PC into a reputable PC repair shop if the above does not work

plug it into an external monitor to see if the problem duplicates, if so, the replace the screen.. if not, look at the motherboard again. Some of the DV2000 were AMD based, and they were nortorious for running really hot and could have "cooked" some components.
